Now THIS is how you fight game companies who want to eliminate used sales. Render their schemes completely useless.

You fight them by buying online passes from them?
They create a online pass whose sole purpose is to combat used sales. The pass comes with used games. Their scheme is useless now.
Gamestop is buying online passes from WB, isn't that what WB wanted?

Let me put it another way: WB wants to make $10 on used copies. Gamestop helps them do it by purchasing passes for every used copy they sell.
We don't know how they got them yet. And even if that is the case, this is still a win for the consumer.

This is kind of a dick move by gamestop, honestly the content is just a bonus, I would rather have my money go to the maker of the product rather than the distributor.

How else would they get them? They can't just make up their own codes unless they want to get sued.

How is it a win for the consumer? The person who bought the game new and trades it in will lose that $10 in the trade in value. A win for the consumer would be to have the opportunity to save $10 by not buying the online pass.

Gamestop should not be supporting online passes at all. Just like they didn't want to support OnLive.

Actually, your last point is really good. I'd like to see the publishers do stuff like this if game retailers collectively refused to carry a game.

lol @ all the people who still think they're entitled to just as much product for a lower price, than the people that buy it new.
"I know this car is used, but I deserve all new paint, motor, upholstery and drivetrain, just like the people that bought it new."

It's not a scam you simpletons. You are buying a used product. You get an inferior one. Games are just catching up to the rest of the world. In the Diablo 3 bashing, MANY people echoed that "The gaming companies are the only industry that complain about used sales", but at the same time, the game consumers are the only customers who feel they deserve the exact same product for less money. So who is being greedy?

So tired of the whiny self-entitlement here.

Well, if Gamestop refused to carry a used game, that would be a dream come true for publishers. Gamestop could refuse to carry new copies though and that would hurt the publishers quite a bit. Sadly, alot of non gamers go straight to Gamestop to buy a game, they don't even consider the big box stores. Gamestop sells alot of new games too.

In this case, Gamestop should offer a cheaper version of the game. For $44.99 you can get the core game and if you want to go home and pay the extra $10, that's your call. That's the way to win against the greedy publishers. That's a win for the consumer because if the publisher wants to start breaking the game into pieces, then there should be an option to choose only the pieces you want.

The main instigators to these online pass shenanigans are now pushing the boat further downhill, how could this be anything but good :D

If this doesn't increase the price of the used copies this is actually a pretty sweet deal. Still I buy my stuff new and more often than not I buy digital copies. Good to see that GameStop finally does something for the customer as well as their own profit for once. I think this will greatly increase their profits though, so ultimately it's good for them.

So tired of the whiny self-entitlement here.
So go away then.

The used game market has always been here while the game industry grew to the monstrous size that it is now. The used market, at the very least, has not hurt the game industry and I would argue it has helped it. How many people bought the first game used, liked it and now have this one pre-ordered? More than a few I'd wager.

The game industry is greedy and is trampling on consumer rights as it shows us all just how ugly greed can be. Building a cripple into a product so as to get money from the second hand market is disgusting.

So if your so tired of the whiny, self-entitlement here, why not go away. Personally, I am sick of those who abuse "self-entitlement".

They're not going to kill the used game market, they'll just piss a lot of people off.
Like what Extra Credit used to say, its not about excluding players from core content, but offer special bonuses if they actually pay full price.
Kind of like what Saints Row 3 is doing with the Man-Cannon truck, and the Exploding-mind-control squid launcher. That's extra content, but it's SO awesome people want to pay full price to get it.

I never said was against the used market. I believe in it's merits and own several used games. But I bought Fallout 3 used, and if I found out that people that paid more than me, got an extra area, I'd say, well that makes sense. I paid less, so I get less product. I expect the same un-self-centered rational behavior from my fellow humans. Expecting too much me thinks.

This boils down to a bunch of people saying that it makes perfect sense that they get the exact same thing, for less money.

Yah, you should take a nap and rest so you can type and think. Troll =/= someone pointing out an obvious other side.

Since you cut out most of my post, I'll do the same for you. You're welcome!

No, this boils down to greed, pure and simple and unlike other Online Passes, they can't even claim that the extra money is to support the servers.

We kinda have that solution already. So you buy first hand, and instead of registering your code you sell it off to anyone who has a second hand copy. Making your $10 back.
Boom, you have now bought your copy $10 cheaper.

She isn't? This is news to me... Your point seems to be proven.

OT: Good move by gamestop, getting more people to buy their used copies so they get improved profit, especially during a time where people are complaining about things like first day DLC and the like. Clever girl...
