If it makes you feel better, one of the gamestops in my town kicked me out because I brought in a drink that I got from the food court, the one that's only ten feet away!
So they kicked me out with no warning.

I've spent thousands of dollars there over the years, and I am no longer a customer.

I worked at a Gamestop awhile back for two weeks before quitting for many of the reasons listed in this thread. I really despised the way they viewed customers and the methods I was supposed to use to sell crap to them that they didn't need.

just to put it out there i work at a gamestop
1. the whole new game thing is that the company sends the store a store lets say 15 games. and the curtain store must "gut" one copy and put it on the "floor". and if there isnt anymore more "wraped copies" you get the last which is the floor copy
no one has played the game.
the gamestop person should have told you this.

2. the game gta. had a wrong sticker. accidents happen, bring it back and fix the problem.

i get complaints all the time about the gamestops in my area and how customers will only go to the one i work at.
if you didnt not enjoy your time on the look on the receipt go to the website featured and give them a bad review tell them your experience was like. they actually do respond to the complaints sent and actions will happen
1. I am well aware that the 'New', unsealed games are, in fact, new. :) It just bugs me to no end, though I did end up buying the last copy of Monopoly this Gamestop has... it was the 'gutted' New one, and I was fine with it... except for the fact that the employee smudged the back of the disc when removing it with their fingers. <<;;

2. Mm, I admit after dealing with the employee as stated, I was just so upset and frustrated that I left then and there without having it taken care of. :/

But on the way home, I stopped by the Gamestop with the awesome employees and talked to them about what happened, and they refunded me the additional price that they agreed I shouldn't of had to pay. :)

Also, to the person who mentioned that I was at fault for the case thing - Yeah, I know. But it's not so much that as the fact that they pulled that sort of move without even informing me, since I know it isn't 'common' for them to switch cases and crap.

As it is, I DID end up getting my original case back (Via telling them that I would, at least, like to get the display case/manual/poster that I originally brought up to purchase. <<; )
Yeah when they smudge my disks that I do happen to buy used, it annoys me, they tell me its protocol to see if its a scratch or just a piece of something (I.E.- strand of hair that bears a resemblance to a scratch), but it still annoys me a bit...

Did you ever bring this to their attention?
I did actually, the day before I decided to quit. They acted very apathetic, as if I was pointing something out that just didn't matter. They weren't mad at me for saying what I said. They were just completely unconcerned.

The weird thing is the incentive the employees (at least at this particular gamestop) have for pushing used games/mag subs/and gamestop cards. The only incentive they would give you, is that if you did a good job, they'd give you more hours. That to me is the strangest part about it. The only thing it gave me incentive to do was go find another job.

This was about 4 years ago, fyi.

Now, during the very rare times that I do go to Gamestop, I walk up to the counter and lay down my item and instantly say, "I'm not interested in anything else, just this game." Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. But it definitely doesn't leave a window open for much argument.

Gamestop sounds horrible. I've heard so much about it here. In England, we have gamestation. All the games (even preowned) are in boxes and are cleaned by the special machine. I suppose it's the price you have to pay for paying too little for Rock Band.
I love Gamestation. I'm glad we don't have to put up with crap like that in the UK. Plus they're one of the few places that sell old games and consoles. When my Nintendo 64 broke they had one (even advertising it in the front window). Obviously I was extremely impressed. There's also this great little shop I go to. If they don't have a game they will personally order it and call you as soon as it's there for a reasonable price.

And THEN the wanker had the audacity to begin telling me KEY POINTS OF THE STORYLINE.
I need to vomit now.

Unless blood starts coming out, please just let me remove the pure liquid rage from my system.

god I hear so many horror stories about gamestop, but I've never recieved anything less than amazing services from the people at my local branches. As a matter of fact if I just need something new and interesting to play I go down to the store and ask them if there's any game they would reccomend. Best part is 90% of the time they tell me where I can go and find new copies for really good prices.

Hell they even went so far as to one time call up the wal-mart in town that had the game for $10 cheaper and have them put it on hold for me. I'm sorry you guys have shitty service when you visit your branches, but maybe you should complain to corporate/district headquarters about the shitty service you've recieved, only way you're going to get it fixed.
That's exactly how I feel with my Gamestop! Seriously, my Gamestop is really good compared to the horror stories that I hear. I go in there, ask for the game I want, and if they have it I get it, boom I'm out. If they don't, we just go to Wal-Mart or Target to find the game. Simple as that, and they rarely ask me any questions about me wanting to subscribe or whatever and even when they do it's a quick question of "Would you like to subscribe?" and I give a polite thought like I'm thinking about then I say "no thanks".

Treat the employees good, and they'll treat you good back. It's a contradiction when I see people on this forum who works at stores say that the customers they meet are absolute shit, when the customers on the forums here say that the employee is shit. What a paradox, says I!

Sorry, but OP, you sound like the kind of customer that makes people who work in retail want to hang themselves every day. If all you want is your purchase and then to leave, don't be so damned picky. Retail workers have to deal with hundreds of people more annoying and pickier than you, so it would serve everyone best if you try not to agitate them further.

Just don't get upset with them, they are busy hating themselves trying to scrape by while dealing with people like you for endless hours every day. It's not their fault their life sucks, its yours.
HOW is it unreasonable him to ask for something he wants to buy. If you go into a restaurant, order a dish off the menu and they bring you something similar but not what you ordered would you not have the right to complain? What if then after they bring you the wrong dish they overcharge you for it and then berate you on your choice of food?

Same thing.
It's not unreasonable to complain, it's unreasonable to threaten to call their boss's boss's boss because they are just following company policy and offering you shit you don't want.
Don't you get it though? If you complain and they keep doing it, they aren't responding to your complaints. So you HAVE to escalate it.

I hate yet to expirence a Game Stop. Where I live there are only EB games. They sold me a faulty game, and a 360 that RRoD a week in. I am not please with them, but I can't really go anywhere else. Also the employees are... well you get the idea.

I once tried to sell a new copy of Midnight Club LA that I had literally owned for only a week and my rockband guitar and mic. I did this in hopes to buy Left 4 Dead which looked epic at the time. The guy at the counter only gave me like 26 bucks for the week-old, mint condition game and 8 bucks for the guitar and mic. I felt ripped off and im never selling them anything back again.
You didn't need to take it you know.

Also, the "guy at the counter" was just doing what the computer told him to do.

Remember, the people you are speaking to do not have the power to do anything. So make everyone happy and just shut the fuck up.
The people that work there know damn well what they're doing. They buy YOUR game at ridiculously low price and then they sell it used to some poor sap for like $54.99 its a scam.

Employees can make any store feel like a chore, whether it be used game store, video store, or general department store.

I had gone to a game store with a friend a few years ago. She wanted to buy a PS2 for her mother's birthday (This was before PS3 came out. Her mother is into gaming as a stress-reliever.) Upon asking for one, the employee started telling her that she should get an Xbox360 instead. How the Xbox was by far superior and had a better game selection. He then started harassing her about how PS2 games sucked. And, what's worse, he refused to sell her a damned PS2! They had a ton of them as well. It was infuriating.

She ended up biting her tongue until a point, then throwing a fit and leaving. I stayed on the sidelines and watched the proceedings. We went to a nearby toy store, that also happened to sell gaming consoles, and she purchased a PS2 with absolutely no incident there.

Needless to say that the employee and others in his small clique (others that preached about the Xbox being superior to all other consoles at customers) did not work at the store long before mysteriously disappearing off of the face of this planet.

Ok, gamestop is making profits by buying low and selling high. its how business works. if it bothers you so much go complain to the other businesses that do it, like nike, or some other company that employs lower then minimum wage. also the people at gamestop are nice to me so i got no beef with them.

This is exactly why I go to a small games store that is quite a ways away from where I live, but a place that I can just hange out and talk with the people working there for a while. The guys at Gamestop just want to sell it to you, and then they want you to get the hell out.
