Who cares? Seriously.

I thought we as a community were over the "OMG IT HAS SEX IN IT, FOLLOW ITS EVERY MOVE!" phase of gaming media. Guess I was wrong.
Except the point is that Catherine looks to not just be a "tee hee, T&A" game, but a game that is aiming to tackle mature topics like sexuality, infidelity and gender identity in a serious manner - things that Atlus' Persona team has already demonstrated that it can do.

It isn't that it has sex in it, it's that it treats the topic of sex seriously. That's the difference, and we're excited about it because precious few games do exactly that.

After taking a look at a couple gameplay videos where you climb a tower by moving blocks, I gotta ask how this links to the "dealing with sexuality" thing? To my inexperienced eye, this looks like a gory block-jumping mini-game with scary stuff where the overall scary entity is derived from a female. Maybe the story that is loosely linked by this mini-game deals with the sexuality angle?

Mr. Funk, you seem pretty in touch with Japanese culture, maybe you can explain if the concept you touched on in the article ("herbivore man"?) is something that Western audiences will be able to comprehend without the Coles Notes. Maybe I am just not getting how this game is a horror game about sex.

Yes, that's correct - it's the story between the block-climbing sections that has to do with sex/relationships, not the actual gameplay scenarios (there, as far as I've been able to tell, it's a bit more like a visual novel/choose your own adventure).

Will the exact concept of a "herbivore man" be accessible to Western audiences? I'm not sure. But given that a lot of guys in the West are so very concerned with images and appearances of masculinity, a game that touches on that might still be poignant.

Well... this is a spot of good news. I had no hopes of it ever seeing western shores full stop when the Escapist first mentioned Catherine in the news, but this has lifted my spirits considerably.

I'm hopeful the game comes to western shores. Even if there is no EU release, i will still import it for my PS3 and hope it's region free, since several of my games are Canadian and work just fine on my PAL PS3. Fingers crossed!

Sounds good. I just never really got the Catherine buzz. I feel that if anyone but Atlus developed it nobody would care. I'd rather have persona 5. But I am happy for its fans, of which there are many around these parts.

No,some of us (like me) want to play the game for story, and or gameplay (Which is pretty good judging from the demo) But the reason this is worth noting is because it was made by the Persona team,is thier first HD release, and is evidently confusing as all hell

To be perfectly honest...I think they're just teasing us. No pun intended.

That said, no. No, I don't think they'll release it here.

Oh Atlus, I've always liked you.

And this smells like fishy fishes. I'd imagine that there would be a catch of some kind...

Even better, that's just after my 17th birthday, so I can get it without needing my dad to buy it with me and give me a dirty look when he sees the boxart!

Captcha: cucumber ivedin. These things are fun, I don't see why people dislike them :D

It's hardly a definitive confirmation, to be sure. But it is some pretty substantial evidence hinting at a Catherine localization, even if we won't know for sure until Atlus confirms (or denies) its plans.
They already have, though. Everyone on the Atlus mailing list got a mail this morning announcing its release in North America. =)

Kind of a jerk move Atlus, but whatever.

So long as we get it I don't really care
