GameStop Offers Exclusive Pokémon Download

Just in case you've forgotten that two new Pokémon games are coming out in March, Nintendo has given the Pokécommunity a reason to head over to GameStop starting this weekend.

Beginning on January 30, the Pokémon obsessed will have a chance to feed the insatiable need for rare and weird creatures with an exclusive Pokémon download. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company International have announced that a unique Pikachu-colored Pichu will be available for download into Platinum [http://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-Diamond-Version-nintendo-ds/dp/B000MJB0H6/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1280177560&sr=1-1] at GameStop through February 14.

But wait Pokéfreaks, there's more. Having a Pikachu-colored Pichu will be the only way to meet the spiky-eared Pichu, a unique creature from the Pokémon movies, in Heartgold [http://www.amazon.com/Pokemon-SoulSilver-Version-Nintendo-DS/dp/B0038MTE7C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278968722&sr=1-1] after the games are eventually released on March 14. Further, an incredibly hard to catch eleven-toed Mankey can be caught by playing Soulsilver or Heartgold while taking hallucinogens. I made that last part up.

I've got nothing against Pokémon, but never played much of the series out of principle. It's not so much that every entry appears to be exactly the same, but that Pokémon is a game based around obsession. This rare Pokémon offer emphasizes why someone like me should never play Pokémon, as I am easily susceptible to games that require the collection of lots of items and rare things. I would be forced to catch them all, and it wouldn't be pretty, not for any of us.

The idea of a download for a rare creature in general is pretty cool, and isn't really done for other games, even though the whole situation sounds silly. A Pikachu-colored Pichu? I'm not a huge Pokémon guy, but even I can figure out that this means the Pichu is just a little more yellow, unless its abilities are also different (if I'm wrong, please harm me in writing). However, it supposedly also comes with the Held Item Everstone and is in a Cherish Ball. I assume everyone who it matters to knows what this means.

I received an Email about the offer, but I had no idea what it meant by a pikachu colored pichu. Can someone clarify for us?

I'm pretty sure Pichu is already colored like Pikachu, only a bit paler and without the brown stripes on its back...?

Pikachu is coloured differently to Pichu, who is a lighter yellow. It's basically just a Pichu with the same colouring as a Pikachu i.e. a deeper yellow and red cheeks.

I can understand the Nintendo event legendaries, but a variation on a fairly useless pokemon? Gimme a break.

Wait, a Pikachu-coloured Pichu? It's been a while since I "retired" from training Pokemon, but isn't Pichu the same colour as Pikachu anyway??

Yeah, I'm a huge Pokemon fan, but I don't give two shits about one slightly different Pichu when I can catch literally unlimited Pikachus and breed literally unlimited Pichus. OK? That's without having to leave the house. Plus, I hate Pikachu and Pichu. They're too yellow for me.

Keep in mind this is Japan, where grown men make fools of themselves in order to get limited edition Hello Kitty dolls. So, no big surprise.

Most likely a shiny Pichu which I think would be good for Shiny hunters. They are also doing a Jirachi download in Feb after the Pichu one.

heh making fun of people who didn't do their pokemon research is fun, Tom your so stupid.

but yes all pokemon games are pretty much the same, i have played and loved most of them but i have yet to see any evolution since red.

i will buy one of the new games but i will not buy it from gamestop, so I'll never catch the Pikachu-colored Pichu.

I noticed that you were exiting sarcastically.....

OT: I don't care, and even if I did, there's no gamestop in England (to the best of my knowledge).

The reason I fell out of love with Pokemon was that we never got the cool stuff in the UK. No one ever got a legitimate Mew in RBY (or its' equivalent in subsequent games) without driving the length of the country. And, realistically, who would be willing to do that?

A Cherish ball is really nothing special. It's just a Pokeball that is completely red. Almost anything you get from a download event comes in one, you just can't use them in the game.
See, there in the top-left corner. That's what all the fuss is about.
