GameStop Predicts Slower than Expected Sales for the 3DS in the Future

Now that they mention it, I haven't sold that many 3DS systems at work (I work at a Gamestop). We got a bunch of people buying it the day it was released, half of them returned to get a new system because they were defective (Dead pixels on the screen, one screen was not working, music sounded weird or something else).

It's just that, like the MOVE and Kinect, it will get better in the future. But in all honesty...the only gimmick the 3DS has is that...well, it's 3D! That's it. Good games, yes (And I'll be dammed if Megaman Legends 3 is only released for the 3DS!) but it's waaaaay more expensive than the DSiXL and there's only a handful of good games out there. So maybe when Zelda and Mario games are released, it will sell better. But personally, I'm happy with my Game Boy micro.

Release those, then we'll talk.

[sub]Of course, I'll still probably have to import a system to run them. Thanks for screwing us over, Nintendo![/sub]

seems like a combination of issues that will kill the 3ds

one of the big ones that i see is that the handheld market is being moved in on by cell phones...as in it just doesn't pay to have a cell phone, ds, flare gun, and parachute in your pockets as a cell phone can do most of those and will only get better as time goes on

and since i have played a demo in a store, after struggling with it to get the proper viewing angle i played for about 15 min only to receive a headache that said "this is a problem caused by the device...why am i doing this" which has turned me off the thing forever...

then there's the weak launch titles, missing features and a personal feeling of 3d being a bad direction...

Well, the current library is kinda crap. I bought my 3DS last March and it's been gathering dust since I don't have any games. I ain't paying $60 for freakin' Pilotwings.

As mentioned above, theres no games. Once theres a solid metroid and zelda title, even remakes, it will do fine

People can not buy it yet if they want, but i hate when people dismiss the 3DS as another DS series update, its a totally new handheld, it definatly surpasses the other DS models since its brand new. Now just wait for the games and its going to sell like hotcakes.
Also to people saying the 3D is a gimmick, who cares, you dont need the 3D to enjoy awesome games, it just adds depth.

Pretty sure it's because they don't have the good games out yet.

All the people dancing on the mockup grave will probably want to save the champagne for later.

I didnt think the 3DS would sell that much. So far there hasnt been a lot of incentive for me to buy it. If it gets to the point where every game comes out for the 3ds, then maybe I will.

250$ for a portable Game Cube that does 3D, has a poor battery life and doesn't have most of its parts set up, with some features(Street Pass) totaly worthless in most places and lackluster launch titles is kinda of a hard thing to sale.

I spent 300$ to get my 3DS... then I had to wait 'till I got payed again just to get a game for it. Without Street Fighter 4, this would be a dusct collector of a handheld.

And I know I mentioned this, but the battery life is just to much of a joke for a handheld. The 3D off, the save energy on and light at 1 out of 5, dies after a short while is just... awful.

Totaly agree. This is like saying the DS was just another iteration of the Gameboy Advanced.

Its problems are easy: Too expensive, too weak of a battery, lack of good games for it.

Fixing those will be a whole different issue.

It would sell better if it had a better launch title selection. Even playing DS games on it is a pain because the upscaling emulation is blurry with faded colors and the basic resolution is half the already small screen. I liked my XL better to be honest; decent battery with ALL of the features and a screen I didn't need to squint at with a magnifying glass. God I hope this doesn't go the way of the GBA Micro. I liked that little system, the high resolution screen was good but it had nothing else going for it besides extreme portability. Anyhow, give it some time to gets it's big three on (Metroid,Mario,Zelda) then it will be worth it, I hope.

Until we get holodeck levels of 3D gaming, I am totally uninterested in 3D in any way shape or form. '3D' has always detracted from the experience for me, when playing games or watching films.

I played one in store and when i first saw the 3D i was like "meh." I can't speak for others but when i first saw a 3D movie i was like "thats cool" but the second time I didn't even notice, i'm already over 3D so it no longer interests me.

What it will take to get me to buy a 3DS:

XL version.
Better battery life.
HD camera(s).
Online store packed with gameboy titles.

Basically Christmas '12 when the 2.0 version comes out.

Atheist.

Not to be the flamer here, but the 3d market is already a niche market. Throw in the fact that's it is handheld and most of the games are remakes or the same as a regular DS game, then the point is further presented.

Not to mention they can brick your shit "for the lulz" and we've got a seriously bad system.
