Sorry if this has been asked before, but I was wondering whether Gametap is fully legitimate or not.

It looks it, with its forums and being generally open about what it does, but I;m slightly suspicious about the fact that it allows you to download some old games for free, where other places charge you for them.

Is it ok?
Thanks

Given that they advertise, any legal issues would have been brought against them by now. The games they offer are very old games, and I'm sure they've reached agreements with the publishers and developers before they put them on Gametap.

To put it simply, it's fine.

I have used it for some games, but i own vista 64 bit and their old bigger games only work on 32 bit systems.

But so far I have had no problems with it so far, gametap is amazing.

Besides, the old free games are just there to get your foot in the door, the other games have to be paid for and are quite appealing.

They haven't ripped me off yet.

Basically, GameTap is owned by Time-Warner. They're so up and up, that if they did anything illegal their army of lawyers changes the law to accommodate them.

Righty-ho; thanks for the reassurance (I can get a bit paranoid at times...)

Just downloading the original Fallout, and the fact that Deus Ex is on there too is very tempting.

Thanks

I use it, but I got my gold account through the My Coke Rewards program so I didn't have to give them any information. But yes, they are a legitimate company, and I have yet to hear about any problems with them.

I always wanted to know...how do they treat manuals? Do you get the game and on your own to figure it out? Do you go to a website for documentation? How does that work?

For the majority of the PC games, they have a PDF of the game manual on the game screen. They're not particularly picky about who gets them. Want the Fallout 2 manual? Here you go [http://www.gametap.com/play/gameDetails/000597150], just click on the "Manuals" link.

For most games, though, they have a simple instruction screen built into the launcher. You can also recustomize the controls for the emulated games.
