The Dice Awards.
Dubbed "the Oscars of gaming."

I woke up early this afternoon thinking today would be a special day for me. A day where all my worries and mental conflicts about previous gaming awards would be settled. I would finally be able to back up why fallout was so much better than GTA. Most importantly, I would be able to see Jay Mohr's Christopher Walken impression live.

Alas*, the universe has failed me once again.
"The Oscars of gaming?" Oscars of gaming my bung-hole. The Oscars isn't run by fucking 12 year olds! The lack of professionalism, the nominees for oh so many of the awards and the just plain disorganized manor of this year's award show was embarrassing. For me as a gamer and for you as gamer. We represent one of the biggest industries in the world and still we aren't respected.
Although it was a freaking amazing Walken impression.

I could go into detail for why it phailed so much in my eyes but I'll be as quick as I can:
- Red Alert 3 won best strategy
- Dead Space won best Action game
- Sack Boy won best Character
- LBP won best console game
- Valkyria Chronicles was not nominated for best RPG game and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon was.

If you didn't watch the live stream then there is something you should know; Little Big Planet won everything. Maybe it didn't win best RPG, best stratagy or best PC game, but it won almost everything else. Including "Game of the Year."
Yes, THAT game of the year. The only fucking award that matters.
The nominees included 2 ground breaking sandbox gammes, the year's best FPS and the finale in one of the best gaming franchises of all time. None of these games won.

Instead the award went to 2D platformer.
Now I've not an uninformed twat like most other thread posters. I have played through Little Big Planet and have even attempted making a few levels myself,. I loved it, every minute of it. The game play and beautiful levels forced an almost pain-staking grimace on my face for hours on end. Having said that, I don't think it deserved game of the year. Mostly because what made the game special was being able to make your own levels and distribute them, and me being about as creative as a scene kid thinking "maybe black today," I didn't fully appreciate the component.

In some ways, I can even see it as a flaw. Not once did the idea "hey, you know what Metal Gear Solid needs? My own personal touch" pass through my mind post-game. Not once did I feel that Fallout 3 was too short..
In short, I think game of the year needed more thought.

My personal highlights were two very small things.
Once was seeing Bruce Shelley inducted into the hall of fame and for Adam Sessler to voice his induction video. The voice of a gaming angel.. Bruce helped put Real Time Strategy games on the map and for that, I thank him.

The second was seeing Morgan Webb on stage as "the pretty girl in the background." Yes my girlfriend is fully aware with my fascination with her.

In short, the award show was a joke.
We both need and deserve better than that.
Richard Gariott can go die.

Peach out.

I'm not even going to comment on the nominees because of how subjective it is, but I do have to agree on the organization and presentation. These are supposed to be our equivalent of the Oscars. I know that gaming culture tends to be rather laid back but a little dignity and professionalism would've been nice.
