I play poker quite a lot (online mostly) and have found that I go through periods of weeks or months where I only play poker and no video games and vice-versa, I don't seem to balance the two, its one or the other.

I'm interested to see if there are more gamers who are poker players and if you feel the two activities clash so to speak?

If you don't play poker but have played, what was it that put you off?

Also if you are a poker player I'd like to hear some of your poker anecdotes, how often you play and biggest prize/pot you have won?

I'll get it started with the best prize I have won but not biggest was a two week trip to Las Vegas playing in the main event of the World Series of Poker last summer, sadly I didn't make the money but it was best holiday I've had =) Oh and when I play poker its probably an average of 10 hours a week. Over to you...

You realize poker is a game right? I wouldn't say they clash per se but playing poker is similar to playing any other game. Its just a card game. I occasionally play card games too, but I only play poker with family and friends. I'm good compared to them though :)

At my uncles house I won $120 across three games, and at my girlfriends brothers apartment I won I think $20 off him and his friends. But he's kind of a mooch and we paid for our drinks and our (and his!) share of the pizza so in reality as a couple we probably didn't come out with more money that we went in with.

Sigh.

Anyways the point is poker is a game, an age old and fun one at that :)

Yea true but a video gamer wouldn't necessarily call themselves a poker player and vice-versa so I'm taking the distinction between the two activities.

I suppose I wouldn't call myself a poker player. But as a gamer who enjoys card games I will play it with people I know to be fair and reasonable. I don't like playing with random people I dont know at school or some such because they might be greedy cheats or jerks about it.

I guess you're talking more about people who spend hours per week on it? The way I still see it is that its just another game. Games aren't confined to just one platform, theres paper and pencil games, computer games, console games, card and board games, party games, umm... sport games... theres all kinds of games and they ALL conflict with each other at least somewhat. Obviously if you spend a lot of time playing a specific kind of game that leaves less time for others.

Maybe I just dont understand what exactly it is you're asking

Ok yea no arguments there, poker and video games are both part of the gaming tapestry. To clarify then, as poker isn't a video game as such I'm suggesting that there are parallels between the two (particularly with online poker). This being the slight addictiveness of both activities, also the fact both require you to put in hours sat in front of the screen to become good. So really I was just curious if video gamers were more likely to play poker than 'non-video gamers'. But aside from that I just wanted to hear some good poker related stories of victory. :)
