Having just recently bought and played Red Dead Redemption, I got to thinking about animal life in games and I noticed something...

Our big scaly friend, the crocodile, has had nowhere near his fair share of spectacular game moments. In fact, he is almost nowhere to be found, even in games he would be a most welcome addition (FarCry 2 for example).

So what memories of crocodiles in games "jump out" at you? And if you were to design a level that featured a crocodile, how would you do it?

My favorite crocodilian moment came in Resident Evil 5. Wading through murkey, waist deep swamps, crapping your pants at every ripple in the water was awesome.

Only ones i can think of other than 'Croc' from the game 'Croc', is the sand ones from Cave Story...

But they might be alligators... Meh, close enough.

EDIT: Dingodyle from Crash Bandicoot. Awesome.

I too, liked the really big crocodile in Resident Evil 5 that looked kind of badass. Also have to give mention to the swimming creatures in the King Kong game, true they weren't technically crocodiles but they still function much the same way.

And of course, even if this doesn't count... Killer Croc from Arkham Asylum. True his boss fight was a let down and he is still technically a human but still, he looked pretty cool.

By the way, awesome thread. I do love me some crocodiles.

urgh, those crocodiles camped i swear. i jumped down the ladder, one right infront of me, managed to dodge it, another one jumped, dodged, then a 3rd and i got eaten... -_-

i thought it was going to be a metaphorical thread. you know, like how the prey can't see crocodiles in the river and then the crocodile jumps out, grips it by the neck then drowns it in the pool. i thought the thread might me when games metaphorically did that to you. Such as in Fire Emblem - radiant dawn. you play through 9 levels (8 chapters and a prologue), fighting with pretty bog-standard characters. they are capable of winning each level with the right tactics and none of them really do anything that special. Chapter 9, the black knight appears. a man clad in heavy armour and a longsword, not encumbered by any of it. Enemy attacks bounce of him, and he sends them flying with deadly blows effortlessly. That metaphorically dragged me unexpectedly, like a crocodile, into the game, awaiting characters to reach similar standards. and they do... wow, love that game.

hmmm, crocodiles are old news now i guess... resi 5 implemented them quite well, but they were pretty exhausted after PS1 games i think. Crash Bandicoot and stuff had them i think, and you just had to time when to jump over them etc. games don't work much like that at the moment, you see them and you can pump a round of machine gun ammo into them, and then they are pretty useless. Resi 5 used them well, what with you not seeing them until they jumped out.

Tomb Raider games had them quite often. And there was a giant one in Resi 2. But yeah, not seen many after the ps1 era.

Do Crocodillian hybrids count?

If so, I remember playing an Impossible Creatures deathmatch against the computer, who absolutely bum-raped me with Crocodile-Eagles. They weren't so great at attacking my base (anti-air towers were a leetle overpowered in that game) but whenever I tried to get even near theirs...
Total utter carnage. When I tried to make a big push with my most powerful units, I was cut to ribbons & left without an army nor resources.
Termite-Tigers then made short work of my remaining buildings.
Man I loved Impossible Creatures and I loved implementing crocodiles... in fact I think I went completely insane when I made my army of critters because I always made crocodile spliced animals.
Crocodile-Gorillas
Crocodile-Whales
Crocodile-Ants
Crocodile-Frogs
Crocodile-Wolves
Crocodile-Komodo Dragons
Crocodile-Turtles
Crocodile-Lions
Crocodile-Vultures
Crocodile-Bears

Seriously, I think I made an entire animal kingdom spliced with crocodile genes and I always wondered if one day I would finally crack and destroy the fabric of nature and create... *gasp*... a CROCODILE-CROCODILE!!!

.... And they said I was MAD.... well I'll show them all, MWA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!

Ignoring the fact I can't be bothered to check if they were truely Crocs or Alligators there are many games that have them.

MGS 3 Snake Eater
Resident Evil 2 - the giant one you kill with the exploding gas canister ala Jaws.
Pitfall, lol.
Frogger

Probably many more.
