I had a conversation with one of my friends the other day about Mass Effect 2, and he told me that he was going to get the collector's edition, or whatever it's called because of how much he hated the box art on the normal one. I had never thought much about box art, but I want your opinion my fellow escapists; does box art influence your feelings about a game, and if so, which ones?

Nah, I tend not to care, but I'm all for minimalist box art like that of the Elder Scrolls series. It's just that much more mysterious, and less cheesy.

Not really, but if I see a game with cool box art, it does make me consider buying it.

Only one box art has convinced me to buy a game, and that is Borderlands.
Such as this. Awesome box art= more consideration from me.

I think it's probably the least important thing to do with a game, isn't it?

On topic: No, I wouldn't avoid a game 'cos of whats on the box, no matter what the picture is of.

Never judge a book..etc, etc.

With access to so many ways to see actual gameplay and screenshots the cover art really has no bearing on my purchasing decisions. Besides, it's not like I'm buying the game just so I can frame the box and stick it on my wall.

That all said, though, games that tend to be shovelware tend to also have lackluster-to-hideous cover art. Stands to reason, though, that if a game was developed on-the-cheap the art department would also have slapped something together on-the-cheap.

Bad box art wouldn't stop me from buying a game but crappy box art would make me maybe not display the box with my other games.

If I wen't by box art, I might not have bought Left 4 Dead. Now it looks awesome, expecially with L4D2 to compare it to, but at first it annoyed me.

Admittidly, the box-art is a good way of enticing me to pick the game up, but the moment it achieves that, I couldn't care less.

After I've got the thing, then I REALLY don't care. The only time I'll ever see the box art after that is when I come to take out the disk and put it back. It's not like I keep it on display.

Game box art has a lot of power than most people think. Any boxes that fail to express those who browse in a game shop rather than go for a specific game lay forgotten about. Failing good box art just stick it in a tin. that always seems to get attention.

No, it doesn't influence me, but COME ON.

Bioware really dropped the ball on this one. It's friggin' ugly!

ME2's box art is hideous, but I know the game will be awesome and will buy it anyway. I suspect most of the people who hang around on the forums are committed enough to gaming to be able to look beyond that sort of thing.

Best box art ever: Ocarina of Time. The title of the game and nothing else, because there is nothing else to be said.

What if it was a scrotum?
If I wanted a game with a scrotum on the box my biggest issue wouldn't be whether I would buy it or not, but whether I was of sound mind or not.

Which game do you expect to find a picture of a scrotum on? Do you really think they would allow that picture to be put on a box?
