I'm very picky (almost OCD-like) about the environment in which I play games, to the point where I won't even play through a game if the setting isn't right. I need a dim room, and absolutely no distractions (that includes people talking) if I'm going to play a game with an involving story. Also, I play in little chunks and break up the fun, rather than rushing it.

Today I tried to marathon through Uncharted, and when I finished I realized that I just didn't enjoy it as much as I could've mainly because I didn't limit my gaming binge.

What environment do you prefer to game in? Do you have to be alone when you play or is it OK if there are people having their own conversation in the corner? Do you play in short bursts or try to finish an entire game in one day?

I hate gaming in front of people, mainly because I don't play MW2 and the only people who would really be in a position to watch are either game-haters or MW2-buffs.

EDIT: Oh yeah ... environment ... a seat of some description and no foglights. That pretty much sums up my pre-requisites.

I usually just chill on my bed, since it's close and more comfortable than... well, the floor. I have to shut the door, though, it just bugs me. I used to play in big amounts when I got a new game, but after my PS2 died because of that (at least I think it was because of that, damn you San Andreas and your awesomeness), I've been playing in hour or two bursts and then letting the system (whatever console it is) rest for a bit.

I much much prefer gaming when I'm at my parents house over christmas/summer holidays because I like to have no distractions, nothing else on my mind and so on. If I play while at my flat at uni I'm always distracted by friends/gf or worried about this lecture or that essay and am never able to unwind
I still do game at uni a lot but it's just not the same

Well I like a environment where its realistic, (bye bye Mw2) Like battlefield two, I like it because that could happen in real life. Also I know it can all be destroyed. Yet I like knowing I have freedom (crackdown,GTA,ect. Sand box games) To do what I want when I want how I want. Also I try to complete games in a few days. Not one day. I can play with people in the room just not to much.

I'll just game whenever I get in the mood. No set environment, as it doesn't matter to me.

I do like to be alone more though, and I'll always try to have a beverage with me.

I like having appropriate access to controls, so generally any situation is fine.

I like to start off calm before gaming so I can let the rage build up. Also I game anywhere and everywhere, doesn't matter to me.

I really prefer the comfort of a nice armchair when I'm playing. I can't seem to be as comfortable on a couch or on a bed, it just doesn't feel as nice as a chair. People can be in the room as long as they don't really bother me as much. The games I enjoy have a good, immersive story and come to think of it, most of the games I play have at least the choice to use stealth ( Modern Warfare 2 for some missions, Fallout 3, and Alpha Protocol come to mind.)

I'm a PC gamer. I have a nice antique desk, not very computer friendly, but a nice big desk. I have a clapped out office chair that has been re-stuffed and repaired by me a hundred times over. I like a dark room but I don't close the blinds during the day (my monitor is calibrated to that light and I have a filtered desk-light for when I'm photo-shopping at night).I have a 5.1 speaker set but mostly I wear a pair of giant cans (Plantronics GameCom 777).

For Xcom I use my netbook wherever.

I like to be alone, and I like to play for maybe 1-2 hours at the most for each sitting. When I was younger, I'd play way longer, but now, I just get bored and want to take a break. That has alot to do with games being so much less interesting to me these days though, and how average a ton of them tend to be.
