Been playing Fallout 3 and got to Little Lamplight. It's a cave entirely full of children under 16---on a kid's 16th birthday s/he is forced out and sent to Big Town (now safe from super mutants thanks to a certain Vault Dweller.)

I had something of a fridge-logic moment (and apparently, according to The Vault wiki, I'm far from the first person to think of it) when I thought "how the hell does the Little Lamplight community replenish itself?" Do orphaned kids from the Wasteland go there? Do the kids who hit puberty leave offspring of their own behind (and if so, just how young are these kids getting sexually involved with each other?) Is there some Vault-Tec cloning machine that never quite made it into Vault 87 that those kids aren't talking about?

This isn't limited to Fallout 3, of course...what games have you guys played that just leave you scratching your head far in excess of the willing suspension of disbelief required for all games?

Well you know the rule: If it's a videogame, ANYTHING is possible.

Well yesterday I played Oblivion and it really hit me as to why they keep sending me on fetch quests for something as simple as ectoplasm or other crap that they could fetch themselves.

Then I remembered, "Oh yeah, I can kill any enemy in one hit while they can't survive two enemies."

Also being a member of the guilds means I can help myself to nearly ANYTHING inside and it's perfectly ok.

Considering that girls reach fertility around age 11 and boys around age 13 and both sexes start getting sexually "aware"/interested by age 13-15, Little Lamplight isn't that impossible. What it does however, is that it contains a lot of uncomfortable insinuations if you consider that the legal age for sexual intercourse is between 15 and 18 in most countries. Especially if you also imagine how the Little Lamplight population forcefully separates mother and child.

Oh Tv tropes...fucking win.

Oh yeah I have one for Oblivon: "Why the hell do guards believe me to be a simple travler? For pete's sake, I took down everything from gods to mudcrab...I am the closest to a warrior god you will every see. My magic is deadly, my strength is unmatch, Hell I paralyze a orc!"

Slave children maybe? Who escape and run away to little lamplight? OR maybe you end up with a lot of raiders killed parents but kids survive because they hid in the air vent/outhouse pit/tent/alien spaceship?

They're teenagers. Unsupervised and living in close quarters with each other, with fuck all to do. It's not unexpected that they'd think of ways to entertain themselves.

The secluded crazy cultist village that supports eight times its population cap. Dragon Age, though I'm sure there are numerous other offenders.

Actually, once you become champion, they say things like "It was an honour to speak with you.......champion" as they trot slowly into the sunset on their horses (I rarely meet them when it isn't sunset, for some reason). It's kinda touching actually - gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling. :D

For some reason, looting corpses in Dragon Age: Origins causes them to instantly turn into a pile of bones. It just seems weird that this happens since there is no reason for it.

Actualy a loot of thing in Dragon Age: Origins do not make sense.

When Zarthian attacks you in the chamber of werewolves, 2 Sylvans and 3 Shades come to his aid. Why these demons of the fade randomly decided to aid him in battle is never explained.

I've always wondered about Oblivion, how come there's 2 guards for every other person, but in the "big battle" there's like 10 guys there!

the game is based after a nuclear holocaust, in which people have survived in building/vaults/cave like things, that were not the best protected and under ground or what ever, there are giant scorpians, super mutants and a nuclear devise that people worship in a middle of a town... and you have problems with people under 16 having sex? im pretty sure most people have done and there are always stories of under age teen's getting pregnant by accident im sure if they were trying it would be even easier and im sure it does say in fallout they accept orphans from the wasteland.

but for fridge logic i would saaaaay... all of the above..

First generation of "Little Lamplight Babies" died to malnutrition and neglect from thier 16+ year old parents, thus sparking the rules from the young, gun-toting children to exile the "oldies".

Cannibalism and enough young teensex to sate even the most perverted closet-case web-dweller ensure over the next... what was it, 200 years? 300? I forget.

It's a game. Willing suspension of disbelief makes all things possible. Maybe the little fuckers go out and raid nearby settlements for toddlers in the night.

Yeah...but they still believe I'm lower then them: That's why I save the game...and go on a cross empire killing spree that would have put anyothers to shame.
