This may belong in the gaming section, but it's more interpersonal than anything else.
I was part of a tabletop RPG (L5R, if anyone's interested) with a group a few months back which ended poorly. A small part of the group decided on a course of action which was (a) done without consulting the rest of the group, and (b) was likely to lead to my character's death. I was, understandably, pissed and so I decided to leave. My character survived to to GM intercession, but the damage had been done, since I knew the people who had gone down that path didn't care about killing my character. After a few days passed and I calmed down, I decided I would like to see if I could rejoin the group, but with the understanding that I would try to remedy what had happened. The GM said if I came back I couldn't try to fix it. But, he took it to the group, and they basically told me I could bugger off.
So, now another game is going on being run by the previous GM, and with two of the same players (one of whom was on the subgroup of the L5R game which set the plan in motion to kill my character). Another one of the players has been agitating for me to join, so here's my question:
How do you trust people again in a gaming situation when that happened? Do you ever play with them again, or do you accept it as a lost cause? Do you talk to the players, and the GM, and make sure it's not going to happen again?
