Nah, don't give up.

If a gaming laptop is what you really want, then good lord do get yourself a gaming laptop.

People who are trying to help you are trying to point out the pitfalls on a need-to-know basis, people who generally oppose the notion of laptop gaming - because it does not seem to be a good idea to them, be it because of limited funds or because they know that the same amount of money will get you a much more potent non-portable computer/game station at any given point in time - may bring arguments to the table that you are not really looking for.

I'll check what's currently looking good. Is Malta your proper location?

Not really. Laptops these days are as powerful as a mid range desktop with some interesting GPU choices. What you pay is a premium for portability.

As for your chosen laptop, don't go with Intel graphics (god no), i7's perfectly okay, and look for a 6 gig RAM or higher model.

On the overheating issue...

Buy one of those cooling lap-rest things. You know, those rectangles with fans in them that you put between your laptop and your lap.

I got mine for 5 bucks at a dollar store. It worked like a charm - my laptop would always overheat when I played games, even older ones. I had processor and ram out the wazoo, and a graphics card that exceeded the minimum specs, but walking down the hallway would overheat my computer and force an emergency shut-down because my heat-sink was either non-existent or utter crap. The external fans in the laptop pad thing were exactly enough cooling to run the game without anything melting or turning off. My laptop still runs hot during games, but everything functions even when I turn the graphic settings back up.

Oh, and bonus - no more "ouch!" moments if you set your laptop on your actual lap at some point - because the pad also protects your lap from laptop burns.

Edit: Best Buy sells these things for around 20-30 bucks. I have no idea if they work better than my 5 buck dollar store purchase. **shrug**

^This... also, you could try setting it on an empty box with no lid, to let the air circulate underneath.
