I go to college. And I want to play PC games. Problem is, my laptop is good for school, not good for gaming. I need a laptop that can run pretty much any game over 30 fps. I would like to keep it cheap as possible, because I don't have a job right now. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have an 800 dollar (as of a year ago) laptop from Toshiba, I can run pretty much everything smoothly on the lowest settings, and most things that aren't crazy on medium, though I usually play older games on it. The most important thing on a laptop is its video card, so keep that in mind when you browse.

How much are you thinking to spend, do you particularly care about video quality..?

Rediscover old titles you like from older OS's or platforms.
Get an emulator
Enjoy your questionably legal entertainment.

Go to Best Buy and look for an Asus that suits your needs. For whatever reason, Best Buy sells Asus' premades for astonishingly low prices, and they have a couple models that are designed for gaming.

I found one for $1200 there that, if it hadn't broken, I would still have; it's very nearly as good as the $3000 Alienware I'm using now.

But seriously, $1200 is basically the absolute lowest price you'll find if you want a laptop like that. If you're thinking of paying less than that, than you either need to get a desktop or reassess what's feasible.

Pretty much all with dedicated graphics can do that at lowest graphics settings. Otherwise, you're out of cheap luck.

You shouldn't really expect to find a cheapish laptop on the market that can play the most recent AAA games smoothly. A new laptop should be able to handle last year's games fairly well (like my Dell Studio jobby), but gaming isn't something they're really geared towards.

Any game? You won't find a laptop (correct me if I'm wrong) that will do that. At least for not very much money.

So there is no way you can fit in a desktop?

the thing is you're not going to find a gaming laptop that runs recent games smoothly on high setting for less than 1500 dollars. If you're just going to run games from like 4-5 years ago you'll have much more choice on lower budget.

Edit: if you still want to go for a gaming laptop of if you have the dough, go with sager laptop. Or if you don't trust company that you never heard of, Asus should be your second choice.

I bought the Asus G73JH-A2 a few months back and so far it's handled everything I've thrown at it maxed out @1920x1200 without any hiccups.

And for 1500usd it's a steal considering the hardware. 10/10 in my book.

Hate to say it, but you're not going to find a gaming laptop that can play any game at a decent framerate for cheap. Gaming laptops are expensive in general. Good ones are even more so. You should probably expect to pay in the 1400 - 2000 USD range.

ASUS is kickass company for the money period. If you want something that can handle gaming expect to shell out at least 1500

Ugg. $1200? Damn.

I hope that will play TF2 and Starcraft 2 on high.

EDIT: This looks pretty good.
