OT: The ending of Portal was kind of shocking to me, the first time I played it.
I had no idea Glad0s was trying to kill me until she started pulling me into the fire.

Because of DooM's engine for a while I thought that Pinky demons were yellow-ish and glowed pink when they went near you. I prefer my misunderstanding. Pink Pinkies look stupid.
I thought that's what you meant. And frmo the looks of it, we're on the same page: no one could possibly know from the looks of Samus that "he" was in fact a "she". Hence the surprise in the end. All I'm saying is that this is part of the plot, the game was MEANT to have you assuming Samus was a guy.TheNamlessGuy said:

I thought Link was called Zelda...when I was a kid until somewhere I read you were supposed to save Princess Zelda and I was weirded out and I was told the guy I played was Link.
