Have you after just noticed something, or someone just talking about gaming or computers or something, that you know is just downright wrong or just misinterpreted? Something like, an old person coming into a game store, and asking if the game will play for their grandchild's Wii, when it is clearly a 360 game.

The one I noticed recently was in a medicine commercial for nausea..this kid is playing some videogame on the TV, and suddenly has to vomit, so he runs out...blah blah advertisement blah blah... so he comes back and starts playing with his mom now who gave him the medicine, but you can obviously see that the kid is using a PS3 controller, while the mother is playing with him with an Xbox controller.....ya...

I was buying "Shadow of the Colossus", when some idiot behind me tells his friend "Look at that guy, he's buying some final fantasy game". And his friend replies "That's so gay" or something like that. Then I look at what they are buying, and they are buying this:

My dad's always been the kind of guy whose called all video games "Nintendos", though I had advanced to PS2 a few years ago.

I was at my local gamestop a few years back. A guy comes in and walks straight up to the counter and asks "Do you have any copies of the 'Pimp My Ride' game in stock?" The employee began to type the name into the computer when the manager approached the guy from behind, tapped him on the shoulder. When he turned around, the manager looked him dead in the eyes and said in 'no shit' voice, "Sir, I'm gonna have to ask you to leave."

I have never laughed so hard.

Lol, those are the same people that wish they could work for Puff Daddy and think Soldier Boy deserves a Grammy.

OT: My parents still refer to all videogames as Nintendo.

I also once overheard someones mom (she was a total MILF by the way, but I digress) asking a friend she was with if the PS2 game she was holding in her hand would play on her son's X-Box. And her friend was like "I think so, their are both CD-Roms." Out of the goodness of my heart and for the sake of her son I intervened and explained to her the intricate workings of the various systems. I then helped her find the X-Box version she was looking for.

When people say Viva Pinata is a poor game meant only for kids.
Now, I don't normally get defensive, but if that gets said, I will fight my corner for a loooooooong time.

Ya lot's of people tend to overlook games completely, I don't know if it's denial or just down right lack of exposure. Another thing is that I'm noticing a decline in the value of a single player expeirence. At my school which is full of rich, white, self-inflated, (well I think you get the picture) anyone who plays the single player component of MW2 is "A Retard", "Gay", "Idiot", and so on. Which is a real pity considered the amount of time these companies put into their single player components.

I wonder if the people behind it were expecting that the people who watch the commercial will pick up on them using the PS3 controller if they are PS3 owners and the XBox controller if they are an XBox owner, but otherwise not notice when they switch.

Anywho, I will say that mass media has become a bit better about this lately. Back in the day (tm) just about every single time they'd have a video/computer game in a movie they'd get something wrong. Like the monitor shows a Commodore 64 game but they'd have a NES controller in their hands and be playing it on an Tandy.

I've got your back. That game is not for little kids.

I can never understand this. You'd think it would be easier to actually use a system while playing the game. rather than set up a fake video playing in the TV/Monitor and having a random console on the ground.

Damn straight.
It was my most played game behind Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Halo 3.
Shame I decided to trade it in for something which I think I traded in a month later but dammit, it was the best 100 hours of my life.
I should really re-buy it, actually.

If I recall correctly and is indeed what he meant, basically the "sex" scene at the end of Mass Effect was heralded as a virtual porn simulator or something of the like.

In case you haven't seen it though, Not only does the "sex" scene consist of half a second of ass at the most, in my honest opinion its done more as a tasteful story element then trying to be smut as Fox news was trying to make it out to be.

Maybe they are not actually real controllers? Just a few set peices, and a few game loop films. The ad men would be clueless in this situation.....

The sad thing is that you see it in television shows and movies a lot. I could somewhat forgive a commercial, but given the budget of the large movies...don't they just BUY one entire system for the background? Isn't there a technical adviser who is supposed to catch errors like this on set? >->

EDIT: Also that fox 'news' report on the DS Pictochat of how pedos could be talking to your kids with it. It was so ridiculous, someone link it if its still on youtube, its pretty old.

EDIT2: here
Choice quotes:
"It has lots of graphics"
"They could see your kid in the backseat of your car."

More or less you are correct, but you didn't blow it out of proportion enough. Lemme see if I can link up the article...here we go, the video itself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKzF173GqTU

And then Cooper Lawrence's apology from a few weeks later:

?I recognize that I misspoke,? she said. ?I really regret saying that, and now that I?ve seen the game and seen the sex scenes it?s kind of a joke.

?Before the show I had asked somebody about what they had heard, and they had said it?s like pornography,? she added. ?But it?s not like pornography. I?ve seen episodes of ?Lost? that are more sexually explicit.?

Foxnews never apologized to MS or Bioware for grossly distorting the facts about the game's content.
