Due to the recent Critical Miss webcomic, I am honestly curious...what platforms does everyone use and why? This does mean what platforms you hate, you may state why you dislike them in a polite manner, but no bashing please. I say platforms because PCs are not really a console, so you could say this is PC vs Console. But really, it's everything. PS3, 360, Wii, 3DS, PSP, PC, everything in the current generation.
I am one of those kids who's parents paid for their toys...Except I bought my 360 and laptop...But they got the PS3 and DS. I don't really play my DS anymore unless I really want to play pokemon. For the laptop, it's a laptop. For gaming? Well it plays everything I want any PC of mine to play. It plays every Valve game at about 60 FPS or higher, Portal 2 at 30. It can run Guild Wars on high, it plays a good chunk of indie titles for me. As far as PC goes, I don't get into the hardcore field that much. PC for me is about the mods, and for me I just need the valve titles, but I do have some other games.
My consoles are a bit more tricky. I don't have a Wii because it really doesn't have anything I'm interested in, maybe the WiiU? Undecided. It's not bad, it's a casual, family friendly system. That's a pretty good marketing move, but in the US it is clearly showing it's age and the Nintendo of America is being pretty lazy, as far as I've heard. But, if I can play it at somepoint, it's got Fatal Frame 4.
For my PS3, this thing is for all my graphic loving pleasures, not to mention the exclusive titles. Because of this, I don't play online that much. I have LBP2 and Rock Band, which are a blast with friends, and if I can find a game there's MGO and KZ3, but aside from that I really just play Single player. I also use it to watch movies. Unlike many PS3s, mine is actually backwards compatible [I know, hard to believe.] so I play some of my old PS2 titles. My only problem is that it runs the Ratchet and Clank games terribly, which are really my entire elementary years.
For my 360, this is definitely the one I play online the most. Aside from my steam library, I probably have the most games on this thing. If I get a multi-platform game, it will most likely be the 360 version I am getting. This is where a play racing or shooting games, and a few RPG titles like Skyrim or Mass Effect [even though it's not really a full fledged RPG.]
Aside from that, in all honesty it deals with how I want to play the game. Shooters I feel more comfortable on the 360. PS3 I use for a lot of Sandbox games like Prototype, Infamous Just Cause 2, Red Dead, and GTA. The only Sandbox game I have on the 360 is Saints Row, but that's because of multiplayer. I also play my fighting games on my PS3 because of the controller and it just feels better to me.
So this is how and why I play the different systems. A lot of it is preference, but I find they're all equally great and just excell in different areas. But much how the Jimquisition states, I don't use my PC for the "Superior Graphics Capability." I play CSS, TF2, Gary's Mod, Minecraft and Serious Sam. All beautifully looking games, but graphically amazing and advanced? Nah. Not really.
