Several things he said over the years stuck with me, but the one that supersedes them all is the notion label of 'Spunkgargleweewee'. Although I doubt I would have ever come up with such a term, it somehow perfectly encapsulates the feelings of exasperation and boredom I get when thinking about modern warfare shooters.

Also I liked a passage from his 'Killer is Dead' review that pertained to the idea of romance and sex minigames. "See, where I was going wrong was assuming that women aren't [useful in-game reward here] vending machines with one slot for flowers and another for cock." The inherent disrespect towards women and the devaluing of the very concept of romance and intimacy never really sat right with me, and that quote expressed my opinion on the issue better than I could ever have hoped to put it.

It's from his World of Warcraft review...

"Its about numbers. You want the items with best numbers until your numbers are the best in the game"
Or something like that. When you have that sentence burned into your head, its hard to play any MMORPGs and think "this is fun".

One of my favorite ways to describe something that seems pointless "It's about people nobody likes doing things that nobody cares about".

Which is pretty much my one sentence review of Catcher in the Rye.
which review was that from?

Red Faction: Guerilla. And I pretty much agreed with his sentiment. While I appreciated the idea behind the game, I found my "allies" more irritating then my enemies....especially during the one mission where you drive go-karts around an active artillery firing range.

Forgot which review its from, but the "And then there's a woman who's there, whose sole purpose is to be the woman who's there."
I think that's from his The Evil Within [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/9840-The-Evil-Within-Review#&gid=gallery_3414&pid=1] review.

On the topic of the game being a little too helpful, this quote from Sonic Boom is probably the most memorable part for me: "'That wall looks breakable! I notice you haven't broken it in the 2.7 seconds since I last mentioned it! That's cool; I'll check again in 2.8 seconds!' What makes you think I'm this stupid, Sonic Boom?!"

I remember how he was well on board with the whole "Resident Evil 5 is racist!" crap. Also he went a step further and said Uncharted was racist, even Uncharted 2, where you're killing white guys by the truck load. Racist against Russians, apparently. Also MGS4 gives you a weapon with infinite ammo?! ...The fact that that was only on the easiest setting was never mentioned though.

Haven't watched any of his stuff in years, the whole "I hate everything that's popular and will rarely praise something everybody else hates" shtick got old pretty fast, I guess he popularised the whole "cynical reviewer" thing, but there are way better, more honest ones about these days. Especially when he was doing ridiculous nit picking or/and making mountains out of mole hills/thin air (which was the case with Uncharted there).

His Extra Punctuation on romancing Anders in Dragon Age 2 got me into the idea of playing characters outside my own race, gender & sexuality. Before then I would always just make myself in RPGs, but I've had more fun actually creating characters and trying to occupy their thought spaces in my head.

I forget what he was talking about, but he said something like "a great story is only truly satisfying once it's finished".

This has become more and more relevant to me over the years. Especially with regard to t.v. shows and anime. No matter how good the ride is, if it keeps stretching out its plot, far beyond the original intentions of the author, it gets exhausting, and I gradually lose interest, eventually reaching the stage of "I've kept up with it all this time, so I might as well see it through to the end, no matter how little I care anymore".

I'd much rather watch a 12 episode show that tells a concise, well thought out plot from beginning to end than a show that drags on for hundreds of episodes with no end in sight.

That is not why we play MMORPGs.

We play it for the experiance (as in the experiance of exploring the world and going on big quests)

I feel immersed exploring zones and listening to music.

For World of Warcraft's next expansion I want you to play 2 videos, one for a preview of a region and play a music that comes with it:

Zone:

Music that goes with it:

And I also enjoy Raiding and exploring the instanced Dungeons so its not just doing it to get stuff for numbers.

It's not so much him /hating/ on something, so much as him pointing out flaws, which all games have, and I enjoy his takes on games I love just as much as watching him reach critical mass over a crap game. Don't take it seriously, just enjoy it for what it's supposed to be, riffing on something. He even said that people don't /like/ him praising games and come to him to see him take the piss. ZP isn't supposed to be a review show, it's Yahtzee riffing on something, regardless of the good points he can make.

I mean he also said himself " It's worth remembering that all reviews are subjective personal opinions, and if you personally enjoy the game then they shouldn't really get to you. "

While I believe that its the sign of a healthy adult to have regular bouts of immaturity, still it does feel blatantly stupid to blast a game with "edgy" or "brutal" content and call it mature.
Like Hatred. There's absolutely nothing mature about that. If it had been handled in an over-the-top self-aware kind of way, then I'd be more inclined to call it maturely immature.

Dunno, haven't played it, but Yahtzee summarized it as being "Like driving to Alice Springs; a whole lot of effort to end up FUCKING NOWHERE!"

Other than that, there's that jingle he made not too long ago:

I love that jingle, and I love many of his other tunes/songs.

Another bit that I love is

Random documents and audio logs, we find them stuck to noticeboards, we find them under dogs. We're gonna stick'em in a file and give it a review; when we're bored of all the gameplay but we've nothing left to do. *thump*
From the review of The Talos Principle.

One thing that I didn't think much of at the time, but which has grown on me, is the statement that lives-system is a remnant from the days when each life was another coin begged from your uncaring mom. When I don't have to be bothered with limited lives in such a fashion, games like Rayman: Origins (which FPLOON mentioned, and I shamelessly edited away) becomes infinitely more enjoyable. Imagine Dark Souls with a lives-system. How would that even work? Would you have to start from the beginning again if you run out of lives?

Don't have a quote, but him always going on about how Nathan Drake is a smug twat still annoys me. After the reviews I recall a lot of people on this site begun parroting his opinion, however I didn't remember Drake being the complete dick Yahtzee paints him up to be at all. I even replayed the games just to find out what the hell he was going on about, but I couldn't find anything.
I'm up for another play through soon as it's been a few years, so we'll see how I feel about it then.

But on the other hand the bugs and gameplay issues make it seem unfinished and its immature obsession with blood and titties make me almost insulted to be the target audience.
Gotta love the idea of a man who coined the term "Spunkgargleweewee" accusing others of being immature

OT: It was mentioned already but it was the whole FF13 getting good after 20 hours.Seriously if it takes that long for your game to get good then something is seriously wrong

Yeah... I just really love his Super Mario 3D Land & Rayman Origins video in general because of all of the points he brings up between the two platformers especially the [infamous] lives system... Also, the "no lives" systems really needs to extend towards certain console/PC ports of arcade games... :p

On a related unrelated note, someone from the YouTube comment section of a particular Johnny Vs. video reminded me of this particular quote (albeit they were quoting the wrong ZP video):
"But then I remember that any game designer who sacrifices fun to make an artistic statement is obviously stuck so far up his own arse that he's in danger of choking on his own head."
There's a couple of irony-based connections you could get from this quote alone, but I digress...

That's his personal aversion to the kind of character Drake is. It's removed now, but at one point there was a video on Youtube that was a snippet from a podcast where Yahtzee spoke of his heavy distaste of Joss Whedon and the kind of character writing he (at least in Yahtzee's view) tends to lean on. Ie. nearly everyone is a sarcastic, smug quip machine no matter the story or situation. I'm not familiar enough with Whedon's work at large to know how true that is, but Age of Ultron fell into that hole with two broken kneecaps and a concussion, and I really, really didn't like it.
