So? This is a good thing. Go and do something useful with your time instead of playing videogames,
That seems a bit harsh for GAMING website members to say to one another.

I'm the same way, and am quite a lot. I talk and read a hell of a lot more about games than I actually play them. What gets me out of it is usually a new release. Man, I have to go through my back-log.

I've been experiencing this a LOT lately. Red Dead Redemption helps a bit since I like to take it slow and look around (my favorite game ever), Halo Reach's online is fun (despite the egregious lack of vehicles), and sometimes I'll get a new game that rockets me out of that slump (like Dead Space 2 or Forza 3). I'm hoping that Human Revolution will pull me out of this one.

Hey I like games, I wouldn't be here if I wasn't, but I am under no illusions as to the merits of gaming as a hobby. There are better things that I could be doing, or that he could be doing, or that all of us could be doing, and not being tied into the addictive qualities of gaming gives you free time that you shouldn't spend trying to become addicted again.

i feel i no longer play games when i don't feel challenged (not difficulty wise) by the subject matter or the execution of a naratyative in a menaingful way. i usually end up abandoning games for a bit for things that are guarenteed to challenge me like metaphysical poetry or romantic literature, or Yosihiro Tatsumi. writing essays helps too because it makes me think more deeply about how a i interact with a game.

although it could be a lack of sunlight or caffiene.

I usually watch an anime or a cartoon.

Since nothing has come out recently, I've watched half of Black Lagoon, 4 seasons of Futurama a couple of Batman movies, My Little Pony (for the 3rd time now).

And I am currently playing Warhammer 40K Dawn of War II: Retribution ... and I'm waiting for Serious Sam 3, Croteam, DO YOU HEAR ME!!!

Happens to me occasionally.

Really just see if anything catches your eye to want to play, if not then just don't play videogames for a while and it will naturally cause the urge to play games to return. :)

The last few days I have been in a major gaming slump. I simply can't get into anything. It isn't that I lack games either, I have way too many in the backlog as it is. But, I can't decide what to play. I'll pop in a game every now and then, but I'll quickly lose my interest.

What do you do when you enter this state of gaming purgatory?
GET DLC GODDAMNIT!

Seriously, I generally feel this at week 2 in the summer holidays so I buy a DLC or a game. This holiday I bought Bad Coy 2: Vietnam and that perked me right up. From there I began to play other games and now I'm back to my time wasting self...

My problem is that I have a very short attention span, so that when a game catches my eye, I obsess over for a week, then get bored and move on.

The only games that I've played for more than a month are Ragnarok Online and Diablo 2. I've been playing both for more than a few years now.

I go back to the well. I play an old favorite and it usually reminds me of why I love gaming as a hobby so much. It typically serves to reinvigorate my interest.

This gen my go-to has been Dead Rising. It was my first Instant Classic on the Xbox 360.

Most of my old consoles are packed away, but I used to really like revisiting some of my N64 games or my Saturn library. NiGHTS on my Saturn is still one of the best games ever. And they've yet to make a better wrestling game than the N64 classics; No Mercy and Wrestlemania 2000. I used to love revisiting those before I had to put the old stuff into storage because we moved.

I take a break from gaming. There's no point playing something if it isn't fun anymore. That's why we play, right? Just spend some time watching films/tv shows you want to catch up on, or read a book. Going for a walk is a good idea too. Clear your head and go exploring.

I suggest you do something besides gaming. Gaming slumps happen for a reason, its your body telling you to find something else to do. Eventually you'll play games again. Could take weeks, months, years, but that is meaningless as long as your doing something productive with your time. I suggest working out, playing pick up games, playing cards (trading or regular), going out with some friends, etc. I took a few years off gaming and now I'm somewhere between casual and hardcore gamer again.

I have this same problem with JRPGs lately, even if I'm told it's great, I find myself getting bored at the beginning of it. However, I usually play for an hour and suddenly I realised I'm having fun.
