Is it just me, or are there a lot of really good OSTs for games that are just never released? I can think of at least 4 games or series right now that had awesome music, but never had it released.

I never understood it either. Do the developers hate money? Is it really that hard to make or do? (Obvious answer: No. A lot of games do get their OSTs released.)

Or are they just lazy?

'Cause I don't know about you, but I'd buy a Ghost Recon, Call of Duty, Battlefield or C&C OST in a heartbeat.

Like I mentioned in a similar thread, if Free Radical Design's website was still up, i'd download the TimeSplitters series' soundtracks in a heartbeat. They even provided CD covers!

I would so buy a soundtrack to The World Ends With You.

Or TF2.
The TF2 soundtrack comes as part of the Orange Box soundtrack. I know you can get it on Amazon and iTunes.

I can buy the Orange Box soundtrack?

I have to remember to do that.

It doesn't matter, because I've already got the best video game OST in existence (aside from Starcraft, of course).

But seriously, perhaps they just don't want to deal with manufacturing and selling their OSTs.

Thanks, you're the reason I bookmarked this thread.

Well I can see why most companies don't put the soundtracks in CD stores. The market is just to small to sustain it. I don't see "The Official Monkey Island Soundtrack" blowing up the charts anytime soon.

However with digital distribution you minimize the cost of production soo... I guess it just comes down to the individual companies to decide if they want to deal with it.

I must make an addedum to an earlier comment:

It would appear you can no longer buy a solid copy of the OB soundtrack. It's only an iTunes or MP3 download now.

Sorry.

Is there a Metal Gear Solid OST? 'Cause I would buy that in a heartbeat. I've never actually played any of the games, but that series has some of the best gaming tunes ever.

I prefer some of the old JRPG music tracks, though most do have a released OST. I love the works of Uematsu and Mitsuda.

Aksys need to stop being assholes and release the BlazBlue soundtrack.

While they're at it, a demo of the game itself would be nice.

I'm Personally disapointed that there won't be a BRUTAL LEGEND soundtrack.
You DO realise they use licensed songs in that game right? Just go buy the individual songs off Itunes.
Yes, I DO know that. Its just that I don't really have any way to buy anything off of Itunes. Mainly because I have very little money (even if they are around a dollar), but I also don't like giving out payment info to a computer or buying stuff online.

Its also less annoying to replace the songs if they are somehow deleted when I have a CD.

This. I've been an avid fan of Daisuke Ishiwatari's works in the Guilty Gear series and have been waiting for BlazBlue's tracks since it's release.

Most Western game developers don't release the game soundtrack for sale in CD or digital format because it was never the culture of Western gamers to buy game soundtracks. The reverse is true in Japan (as far as I know; Chinese games never had any and only a smattering of Korean games ever released their soundtracks for sale) where game OSTs are just as popular as the typical J-Pop titles - mainly because many of these games feature said J-Pop artistes in the first place.

But, maybe things are beginning to change. GameLIVE and the Final Fantasy ochestral concert has had resounding success across the globe, and the humidity in Blizzcon rose dramatically when an orchestra performed a number of the company's more well-known pieces (Warcraft opening, Theme of Tristram, etc).
