My parents are not gamers. My mom used to play The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. on our NES back in the day. Occasionally growing up, my dad and I would play Rush 2, or Star Fox on the N64. Overall, my parents are confused and annoyed with games in general. Today however, was different. My dad came over to visit, and saw that I had been playing Just Cause 2. He watched me play it for a few minutes, and then insisted on playing it for himself. After ages of getting comfortable enough with the controls to wreck a car, he began to really enjoy himself. He ended up playing for almost two hours. The funniest thing to me, was the fact that my dad is very conservative, frowning upon violent games, and yet within a few minutes of playing, he was splattering civilians across the front of his jeep, laughing maniacally. Here are some of the quotes from my dad during his time gaming:
"Hahaha, civilians! BOOM!"
"Poop, I grenaded myself again"
"Stop making me shoot! Joel how do I stop shooting?! What trigger?! Controllers have triggers?"
"Hahaha, I almost mounted that Tug-boat"
"Why aren't there more Tug-boats out here, this is an industrial area?"
"He has a lot of parachutes in his backpack, huh?"
"Tug-boats aren't good for racing."
It was one of the funniest sites I've ever beheld, especially his fascination with Tug-boats. So I ask you, fellow Escapists, do your parents game? Do they game with you? Please share any stories or comments.
