Video games have many thing that are noticed like grafics, story or even gameplay but the music is sometimes left untouched, heres my question for my fellow Escapist's, What is your favourite video game music

Me personaly LOVE the Portal 'Still Alive' music and could even get it on my Ipod and the Halo 3 Menu is a close second but whats your opinion

I love the ending theme to both portal games, mass effect also has brilliant music as do the original dawn of war games

Marty O' Donnell is a damn genius when it comes to composing. Every single game he's come out with since Halo: CE has been chock full of super memorable songs. I like Still Alive as much as the next guy but aside from that I couldn't hum one more tune from Portal. I could hum tens of Marty's tunes.

Nobuo Uematsu was also one of the best back when Final Fantasy was in its prime.

I'm gonna take you back to the past for a second...
Ninja Gaiden level 4-2

Mega Man 2 - Dr. Wily's Castle

Doom level 1 (SNES exclusive as far as I can tell)
All of those were pretty good but this is my favorite out of EVERY OTHER Final Fantasy (musically speaking anyway, VIII has my favorite level progression and IX has my favorite cast and mini-games).

Regular battle theme

This is the Boss Theme

This thread is not complete without mention of Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. Hard to believe that it wasn't mentioned already.

12 or 13 replies and NO mention of Bastion. The ending song to that game was one of the few times a game has blew me away. All the other tracks are so beautifully composed and when you get to any of the game, they all make you go wow at how they fit in with the gameplay and story. If you havent already, go to youtube (or buy the soundtrack), sit back and just listen to the whole soundtrack in one go. You will be amazed.

I think context is really important when listening to Original Soundtracks. They don't often stand on their own unless you've already experienced their place in a game and can recollect what the song is trying to convey.

It's been all of 18 posts and nobody's brought up Touhou, or Bastion? For shame!

The opening theme of both Deus Ex games that anyone gives a damn about are pretty awesome too.

Deus Ex: The Original have a really great electronic ambient style soundtrack and is one of my personal favourites. The sequels had some good tunes too.
