I saw 3 people in my school today wearing gang colors on purpose and clearly in the open later while waiting for the bus 2 gents were attempting to get groups of people to fight eachother and this is a fairly small city and we only have 1 or 2 very weak gangs but i was wondering if any people here are in or have been in gangs could explain to me just what goes through those peoples minds and why they think the best way to sort out they're life is joining a gang or if anyone has worse stories about gangs in they're town if this is in the incorrect form please move it thank you.

Simple empowerment fantasy, not unlike the reason we play games. If your life sucks, you're poor, dumb, without dreams or hopes or guidance, you may choose to believe you're this badass who is not actually a waste of space and gangs facilitate that type of environment, with the few high level members being simple criminals who take advantage of the previously described aimless kids in order to make money, sell drugs and w/e else without actually risking getting caught.

It's classic anti-social behavior basically, they refuse to accept society's rules and in their place they put their own rules, therefore by being hilariously stupid about these rules, they affirm to themselves the fantasy of their made up rules actually being important.

but why didn't they're parents stop them from becoming this, why didn't anyone stop them from becoming these horrible people that could have with a bit of help become quite sucsessful in life instead of beating people and selling drugs they're fights can get quite blood and somtimes involve death someone saw this happening and didn't stop it?

Like I said they were without guidance, that means they had nobody who cared about them, their parents either through circumstance or simply due to being generally speaking "bad parents" didn't give a damn about what their kids would do.

It's a myth that as soon as you have a kid you magically love it, some people just don't.

Who would stop them, if you're in a culturally derelict part of the world with no sense of morality or goodness nobody gives a damn about this sort of thing. That's the problem of needing to be strong to survive, the weak get swallowed up or simply die out.

Because their parents don't care or notice. It's quite simple really. Gangs are a family to their members, they can provide support and a sense of meaning in an environment where there simply is none.

Also, please use punctuation. You're entire first post in one sentence and your thoughts are very hard to follow.

Gangs, of some kind, have always been cool. You get to play at being the big important man without having to deal with those pesky responsibility thingies.

I know a guy who was in a gang. he's had a rather tough life to show for it. he said he got into it because it was the best sense of something resembling a friendship/family he had (which is a shame cause he moved outw ith his mom and she's a really nice lady so it was all his dad).

Other then that, it hink its the joy of power that a gun brings you, and knowing thinking that at your word five other guys will come with guns and ice someone just because you ask them to. We had a small gang where I grew up, and they were all a bunch of pussy ass bitches once you actually dared to stand up to them. Turns out none of them actually where in the gang they claimed, and only one of them had ever held a weapon before in a fight.

Because people feel insecure with their surroundings and need a clique to fit into. People get desperate when they feel like they have no place in life.

I moved out of Wheaton which was a pretty big nest for MS13. I was never part of a gang but at one point in middle school I tried to start a Cult. Nobody wanted to join me for some reason or another.

As for gangs in general I don't see the appeal. Obviously everyone wants to belong and feel wanted but there are other outlets for that.
