Gas Guzzlers Tears Up the Track

If you think the idea of weaponized supercars is a good one, then you might want to check out this new trailer for Gas Guzzlers: Combat Carnage.

I don't know if "combat racing" is very widely accepted as a videogame genre, but it certainly should be. Guns and cars go together like Mel Gibson and skin-tight leather pants on a shimmering Australian highway, after all, and if you don't believe that then allow me to draw your attention to the new trailer for Gas Guzzlers: Combat Carnage, the driving/shooting/blowing things up game from Croatian studio Gamepires that'll put the slug in your kneecap.

Gas Guzzlers will feature a wide range of cars fighting it out on more than 100 miles of racetracks of all sorts. As usual with this kind of game, you'll begin your career in a clunker, racing for the small purses that will allow you to upgrade your machine until you can run with the big boys. Progress in the game will unlock new tracks, cars and challenge categories, and of course the money needed to stay on top in an increasingly competitive field.

Will it be a high-end, high-fidelity supercar racing simulator? Probably not. But it looks pretty, it looks fast and most important of all, it looks like it might be fun. We'll find out soon enough - Gas Guzzlers: Combat Carnage [http://www.gamepires.com/gasguzzlers.aspx] is due out this spring for the PC.

now THIS is my kind of racing game, personally I hate all the realistic ones that have shite for drifting and/or speed and having sweet ass weapons to go on the offense/defense.

fuck yes. I will definitely be paying attention to this.

Is that an Abarth 1000TC? No it can't be as the engine cover is closed. :( Oh well if it has a Fiat in it I'll buy it.

I have never been so interested in a racing game in my life. Can I get an Aston Martin fitted with Rocket launchers and machine guns a la James Bond? Please?

Also, any word on price?

No word yet on price or distribution, although I'd expect something digital and not terribly expensive. Details are still awfully thin but I'll keep you posted. (I'd normally say "we'll keep you posted" but nobody here cares about this kind of crap except me. ;) )

Guns and cars=peanut butter and jelly. But there aren't nearly enough racing/shooters, I'm practically obligated to pick this up.

That is why we love you, worship you, kneel before you, kiss your feet... well, no one actually does that.

To be honest looking at this it makes me wonder why nobody has picked up the liscences for either the original "Car Wars" PnP game, or better yet Games Workshop's old "Dark Future" which was custom made for this kind of thing.

I once Beta Tested an MMORPG called "Auto Assault" by NCSoft but it came out lacking.

The genere has a lot of potential, but it seems like few people want to do anything paticularly new with it, or engage in any real world building. Maybe this game does both,
but it doesn't really look like it.

Who knows, with "Wasteland" getting a kickstarter, maybe we're about to see a dawn of really old games finally getting seuels they deserve, and Richard Garriot will work on a sequel to Autoduel now that he's apparently going back to single player game development. :)
