Let me Explain:

I was hoping to gather a few individuals for a small Role-playing group, where instead of one big long quest, it was diverted into multiple smaller side missions, or episodes.

The group may be looking for some ultimate treasure/out to destroy ultimate evil but has to travel through a wide variety cities, monsters and other characters to get there.

This way Players don't get bogged down in one place and I can keep the story fresh and moving.

Im thinking about 4-5 players should be enough for this little experiment of mine, and I was thinking about having a high fantasy setting. Your characters will help me determine some story points so if you have a character ready for some swash-buckling adventure post it down below!

Amiket; City of the Dawn Ocean, home to the passionate warriors of the Serakian Queendom. In the time of war in the lands of Seraji they held victory against the evil of the fallen god Xirash and through honour and skill defeated the chaos he brought with it. The aim of every Serakin warrior; is to up hold the passion and glory of their people and to destroy the essence of Xirash where ever he may take hold.

This is a Task they have taken upon themselves, but glory, treasure and weapons of incredible power await the adventurer who dare tread into the dark path of Xirash and face his twisted smile.

The conservative and knowledgeable of Darvain hold themselves to the aspiring task of ultimate knowlegde, having been cast out of the warm lush lower lands many centuries ago they built into the mountains to escape the harsh cold of their lands. Without the mystical gift of magic science and technology lead them to build a magnificent empire. but the chaos of Xirash creeps into their borders, through determination and superior fire power they keep the black blooded demons at bay, and will never resort to asking for help.

The decadent and viscous Arjuians however; welcome the awesome power of the fallen god. To be the strongest, most powerful is the way of an Arjunian, the divide between the powerful and the weak is as fragile as ones life. They live to the full extent of their freedom, without shame or inhibition they do as they please without following the rules. To come from Arjunia is to know true beauty and true chaos.

You may base your characters on one of these short paragraphs or make up your own past and Ill fit it in as best I can. :D

Name: Cranshaw

Age: 34

Appearance: Wears a white dress shirt with a leather vest over it and a pair of black pants. Wears shoes, gauntlets, and a helmet all made of cast-iron. His eyes are green and his teeth are yellow and crooked. He has pale skin.

Personality: He is a malicious cutthroat. He would just as soon kill you as look at you. But he would always do so with a smile. He hates theatrics and rarely cares about people's backstories and motives. Preferring to kill first and not worry about questions.

Weapon: Fights using his iron gauntlets and shoes. He had a wizard enchant them so they weigh almost nothing.

Magic: None.

Back Story: Growing up as a street urchin in the Darvain capital, he had to steal to make a living. One day he saw a group of visiting travelers and thought they would have a lot of valuable things to steal. He ended up pickpocketing a strange amulet off one of them. As he looked into the gemstone he saw the fallen god Xirash and his forbidden magic drove Cranshaw to insanity.

Special notes: Prefers to fight in back-alleys and other urban-type environments. Cannot fight well in large scale battles.

I'm here to encourage participation. I reckon this has potential, and it should be kept nurtured. Furthermore, I volunteer as Co-GM, since I like to invent lore and detail but have little skill in constant RP maintenance...

Unfortunately, this character will only work if we are gonna be a team, cos in fights he is literally only a support character.

Name: Donovan Firenze

Age: 38

Appearance: A large man, moderately tall, but so solidly built as to seem literally obese, until one realizes that he is literally all muscle. His face is noble, as if carved from rock, but bears an appearance by turns of impassivity and benevolence. His eyes are a pale blue, either twinkling with kindness to his friends or calm and cold as winter to his foes. His hair is short, cropped and a blond so pales as to be almost white.

Personality: Despite being built like a mountain, Donovan is a man of prevailing good will and kindliness of heart, feeling a goodwill to all life to such an extent that he cannot being himself to hurt even the smallest insect. His bulk belies his mind, for he is quick-witted and intelligent, always keen to argue a point or talk to anyone in search of company, for he is and endless source of warmth, support and friendship.

Weapon: Donovan carries no weapon, but does wear a vast suit of plate armor, and a hulking tower shield on his left arm

Magic: Healing and support magic; Donovan is a master of spells that not only repair his allies bodies but also invigorate them and replenish their spent energy, or even raise them to new heights. He can also cast magical defenses, turning aside arrows and spells, or even stop a blade if he has the chance and the strength left. Finally, if even his prodigious strength fade, he can fall back on blood magic, drawing magical power directly from his own physical strength, for he has much to spare

Back Story: Son of a priestess and war veteran whose career was cut short by a crippling injury, Donovan was given a powerful respect for all life from his mother and warned by his father never to fight if he could ever help it. As a result he grew up as a dedicated pacifist, resisting the urge to get into fights despite his size, and eventually trained in medicine and magical healing. He now offers his services to small groups of adventurers, hoping to keep them safe and aid their journeys, thus serving a noble purpose while causing no harm

Special notes: Since he wears heavy armor, he can serve as a tank while not actually doing harm to the foe. Also, his medical training allows him to perform mundane medicine as well as magical healing

Name:Flynn Aleot

Age:19

Appearance:Slender, strong but not bulky. Has a very gentle looking face, Kind of innocent, not a scratch on him. Has blonde hair with dark brown eyes and keeps shaved. Around 5' 6" tall, and always thought he was short. Has a small tattoo on one arm, but likes to keep it hidden.

Personality:Despite his gentle looking face, He is cold and relentless. Fools those he knows into a false sense of security, and if he ever needed to he could turn on them. Usually likes to be by himself, only with others when it benefits him. Cares only for himself in this world, and thats just the way he likes it.

Weapon: A pair of curved daggers. Wears a Hard leather vest with leather leggings.

Magic:Wind-Doesn't know the techniques to use it for anything other than close fighting. Uses it to enhance his running or strike harder into his target. Has used it to scale buildings with ease, but runs out of the energy faster than a mage or something would.

Backstory:At the age of 5 Flynn was abandoned on the streets of Arjunia. Lost among its streets he wandered for a while in the streets, trusting no one. That is, until a slender man came by and clevery lured him into training with him. He was to become an assasin of the Arjunian empire, They trained them as young as they could find him, and he was one of the youngest. Since day one he was given a set of blades to train with.
He quckly excelled at what he did, and was chosen to be part of an elite program at the age of 13. He was carted off to a different building and trained to his physical and mental limits each day. He was taught to show no emotion, His heart was a cold dark abyss. This is when the fighting began to happen. He was told to fight the other elites of the academy, and that only a select few would be chosen, the others would die. They were paired off, kind of like a tournament, with a day in between each round. To make a long story short, he won, he slayed every other boy at that tournament, and was rewarded for it. He was imbued with a special magic tempered for assasins of his caliber. He was given wind magic, To hasten his step and slay his enemies. 6 years later, after doing the dirty work of the Arjunians, He went rogue, for his own reasons, and is how he ended up here.

Lol... I forgot it said 2-3 paragraphs... The original was MUCH longer...

I've got a D&D4e character I've been wanting to rp with for a while now; I don't know how appropriate he is but I'd be happy to tweak him in whatever way the DM desires :)

Name: Karyen Hardfoot

Age: Early 30s

Appearance: A grizzled male Tiefling with roughly cropped red hair, an eyepatch and pale purple skin

Personality: Solitary by nature, Karyen enjoys a good joke but quickly gets down to business. He is not selfish per se but never forgets to call in a favour, and rarely takes an associate at their word. He is functionally illiterate but does not see it as a significant setback for his line of work.

Weapon: 2x long knives (Fool and Martyr), longbow, spyglass

Magic: No training but demonic heritage

Back Story: Also an urchin One of the world's few adventurers to grow up in a happy, healthy home, Karyen was born and raised in Amiket by his parents in a polygamist commune which worshipped the generally benevolent god Moradin. As Karyen grew however the commune became increasingly unorthodox and militant and began to pose an outright challenge to the authority of the Serakian state. Eventually the Serakian guard besieged the Moradinites' compound and a series of atrocities took place, with vicious fighting on both sides. Karyen was one of the few survivors and, having watched his parents die, saw no reason to stay in the city and risk a hanging. He fled Amiket in his teens and has not settled since. Drawing on the skills he learnt as a sniper during the Fall of Ironhall, he now plies his trade on the coast as a scout for smugglers and collects the occasional bounty - although he is always wary of the bounty on his own head too.

Special notes: The eyepatch is actually entirely unnecessary; Karyen wears it to conceal a priceless platinum ring of indeterminate origin. While comrades usually dismiss it as a ridiculous affectation, it brings Karyen tremendous peace of mind: in the event that he is robbed, ran out of town or left for dead, he will always have something to help him get back on his feet.

Awesome, ill just wait for Czargent Sane to post up a character sheet, clarify a few more notes and we should be ready to begin. I will try and bring you guys together as much as possible but you need to be team players as well, no cut-throating PC's without explicit permission XD.

there are demons in this setting but you were born human, half demons have two forms and you can have the tiefling appearance when you 'turn' but otherwise you can look human with a dark aura.

At the time of the Gods ascension to heaven, before they gave up their mortal skins to rule over the land of Seraji, they stood upon the base of the holy mountain and spoke their final words to their people.

'It will be the strongest who shall rule this land, and bring it peace.'

The four, three men and a woman, whose names were immortalized by the witnesses on that day, rose to the heavens in a great flash of light. Leaving the mortals below to decide the fate and the worth of those words.

Some believed it was the fate of the sword to rule, those who were strong in a physical sense, men as large as ox, women who brandished sword and bow and those who could kill without hesitation.

Other favored it was the magic in peoples blood, to command the elements with their whim, who control demons who erk in the nightmares of darkness like dogs on a leash...

These two factions fought and turned the soils red with blood until it was decided the one people could be one no more.

The people of magic and daughters of war moved west. They fought to protect what precious to them most, love, passion, honor. They found peace and prosperity, but never forgot the importance of their skill. They settled under the banner of crimson and named their new queendom SERAK.

The brutes who chose strength did not move from their holy mountain, their people split further into family groups, forever at war with each other over supremacy. Cruelty and treachery grew within them, decadent barbarians continue to fight for the sands of ARJUNIA.

And what of those who had no magic and were not strong enough to fight? The old the sick, the weak... they ran from the battle field, spat and cursed as weaklings, they had no right to the fertile lands of Seraji, they were banished north to the icy mountains... They dug into the mountains, forged steel and crystal, built cities as large as the mountains themselves, they did everything they could to forget their weakness. The Stone people of DARVAE.

The lost people of Darvae had no choice but to run to the icy mountains to escape death or slavery. The conditions were harsh, a great deal of many people died. Only through strict discipline and harsh regiment did they survive the horrid winters. Without magic to light their fires, and brute strength to move boulders they had to use their brains, intelligence to see them through. Records are kept religiously, the word of the law is golden and for a long time, the punishment for breaking laws was banishment or death. But the Darvinians have grown past that now, seeing themselves as more technically advanced and civilized than the other kingdoms of Seraji.

Darvinians are tall, well build people, many of fair haired and pale complexion from all their time in the winter snow. They prefer to be covered from neck to toe, any exposed skin is considered disrespectful. Most marriages are arranged in higher families and never across class. The man is the head of the house hold, and all traditional roles apply, Women are barred from the army (unless secretaries to generals and other officials) for religious reasons, women give life, men take it away.

The noble warriors of the west did what they could to differ themselves from the barbarians and the weaklings and did what they could to build a good and strong society. Magic runs through the blood but it is the women who hold the most talent for it, men take up arms all the same but a woman was always in charge.

Their people are of olive skin and slender frames, speed and skill are valued far more than just strength alone, martial arts and duels are common sports. People are born to war, but also to pleasure, love is a prevalent pursuit, many poems and songs are written about star-crossed loves and true loves journey through to the afterlife.

Magic, a spiritual and physical release, those born with it are given the greatest privilege and grand expectations. Those who do not use their powers to fight do so in the service of the gods.

The battling tribes fought over and over until there were so many dead the ground grew rotten and fallow. They gathered in family groups, the powerful swayed the weaker to serve their needs else their enemies kill them all. Life is cheap in these lands, slavery and murder are not only law but every day life. The only law is that reinforced by the ruling families... war lords in a chaotic land.

Tanned skin, tattooed and scared for blood recognition, Arjunians care only for the moment and their own skins. The rich families drink heavily of magic potions to prolong their youth and virility, and thus have become depraved and insane. Anything can be bought and sold, except for children.

Family life is the core of the culture, children are raised in secret until the coming of age ceremony, which traditionally included the killing of an animal, drinking for several hours and the lost of virginity. Loyalty to the family is everything, if you cannot trust your family you are the walking dead, those who are orphaned are the greatest ill omen and bad luck one can have.

The war that split the world was nothing compared to 'The Second War', or 'The War of Re-meeting'.
After hundred of years banished to the icy wastes, the Darvinains began to drill through the mountains to the other side. Many thought the few in the ice had long since perished, much to the surprise of Serakian peasants when a giant machine drilled through the rocks and out spilled men in full suits of armor.
The Serakians were quite hospitable to the Darvinains at first, and trade was reasonable for many years, however hostilities between them were visible, Darvinains had never forgotten their banishment and seemed too cold and uncaring for the serakians.
The second war was started over something trivial.
A serakian young man had the wrong travel papers. Darvinians obsession with records and paper work meant that even a common traveler needed to have the right paper passes in order to go through the mountain tunnel and trade. The youth had only just become a man, and it was his first responsibility his mother had entrusted him with. The guards the tunnel wouldn't allow him through, he had purchased a travelers pass but had no traders license. The guard tried to push him back but the young man fought with the guard and took a hold of the flint rifle...
The gun went off and the young man was killed, the crowd of Serakian travelers demanded blood for the loos of the young man, the guards could not keep the peace and fired on the crowd for fear of their lives....
It took nearly 500 years for the war to end.

Serakiand and Darvinains fought bitterly, with Arjunians scavenging over the dead.

Serakian forces had proved too strong for the Darvinains and had nearly conquered them all... but having seen the state of the starving people who had been halled up in the walls of the city for years, the Serakians saw the war was for nothing and packed up and left.

That was two hundred years from the present date, and the world is at an uneasy peace once more.

Riaar, god of the flame and knowledge, patron god of Darvae.

Maarku, god the dead and fate, patron god of Arjunia.

Farae, goddess of life and love, patron goddess of Serak.

Xirash, god of luck and power, patron god of the Suda.

During the second war a cult of Xirash began using powerful rituals to try and put an end the war. Their plan was to give their own lives to bring the god to earth.
They succeeded.
But not all went according to plan, the god that fell to earth became corrupted, his magic spilled into the earth like a poison choking and devouring all it touched. His mind lost the lumbering god has no will nor plan of his own. other creatures and humans have been changed by this taint, becoming little more than monsters, the most vicious of these creatures have mastered the corrupted magic to their own needs.

ok Here's a bit more background detail on the world. ill post the magic details on the weekend and start a new thread with the proper opening story on Sunday/Monday.
