Gay sterotype

The thing is that stereotypes always come from somewhere. A lot of gay men are rather feminine in their mannerisms. Just like a lot of lesbians are rather masculine in their mannerisms.

However there are ALWAYS exceptions.

The stereotypes do indeed come from the select few who do indeed act like that. Go to New York City or Miami and you'll witness first hand those types of people do exist, however there are exceptions to all of that. I've known plenty of gay men and lesbians who you would never guess are gay and even lots of straight men who act stereotypically gay for whatever reason.

Just depends on the person but the stereotype exists for a reason.

Because he's the stereotypical gay man? Not much of a stereotype if he's nothing like the stereotype.

Personally I find that this stereotype is seen in the real world mostly because of the media blowing it up so much. I'm gay and I'm no more girly than anyone else. I do like um, theater though... Besides that, I listen to metal and stuff so I don't think I really fit this.

The only gay guy I know fits the stereotype kinda well...

And I have another friend who fits it decently, but who is straight, but people assume he is gay because he has some rather... interesting mannerisms. Although the guy is actually quite a player Partially thanks to chocolate muffins that he sells (another reason people don't think he is straight, until they see him enjoy all the attention when girls flock to buy them), and I'm sure he accepts bribes...

What I tried to convey but probably didn't, some people will fit the stereotype, some won't. That is always how it is. With any stereotype.

Oh sure there are plenty of unassuming gay guys, Steven fry, Nei Patrick Harris, John Barrowman, Sir Ian Mckellen. A lot of my friends are gay but they're nothing like the stereotype, it's only where the gay community and the Drama community overlap that you really get that personality profile.

Seriously though, you don't know some of the guys I know. He doesn't pop out straight away as gay. He just dresses well.

I'm going to invert this and say.

My best friend is that stereotype being the single most effeminate guy I have ever known, so much so that when in public we have an odd situation where we have to explain we are not a couple... constantly, but he is straight completely.

sometimes it is just the way a person is and nothing to actually do with their orientation.

Stereotypes are usually based on truth. Usually. As far as gays go, I know both kinds. The normal guy who's into dudes and the flamboyant, wild, heaaay-saying kind. I have to say, I really don't like the latter. Really annoys me. But the other guy is fun hang with.

So there you go.

You see sterotypes in movies because they are amusing, not because they reprasent the majority of that group of people.

That is an interesting misconception. The people who create movies live in society (kind of) too. They didn't just base those characters on nothing.

I think there's some truth to the stereotypes-in-movies thing.
I find that minorities, whether by their sexual preference or race or whatever, seem to be overrepresented in comedies (some more than others...), or as comic relief.
It's easier to accept what you find unappealing on some level or in some way when it's injected with humor.

I have a gay mate who calls everyone else faggots. And one time when we were walking down the street we walked past this incredibly flamboyant gay guy and he said under his breath "Fucking queers" ... It baffles me. I know he's taking the piss but still. And he's pretty open with his sexuality too. He's one of those people who you could only judge him if you met him. I know someone's gonna say "Sounds to me like..." but that's the thing, whatever you think- YOU'RE WRONG! He's the worlds biggest anomoly. But his favourite band definately isn't Abba.
