Does anyone who is doing or have done they're GCSEs that find it wierd how teachers view a grade below an A like you just killed a puppy? I got a B in my actual Maths exam (i took it early, not my choice btw), and my teacher acted like I was a retard. I mean, it's a pass, and when the fuck am I ever gonna need quadratic equations in real life?

sorry for the rant.

LOL I would have been very proud if I would have gotten a B in school. I was lucky to get a C.
but I got one of the highest scores on the asvab and had my choice of any job the army had.
also one of my teachers gave me a Q one time.

I only got one A at GCSE, in art. I think it depends on what the teacher was expecting from you. If you've shown a high level of understanding, your teacher will be disappointed when you don't get the grade. My music teacher was disappointed with my B where my English teacher was delighted with a B.

Considering that they seem to drill you in doing exams non-stop, I wouldn't be surprised if you don't have enough time to learn how to do anything with all of the bloody tests you take. What happened to critical thinking?
that's a good point. In the exams they ask you to answer the question, but it's never said how it could help you or be put to everyday use.

I had many teachers having ago at me for getting B's and C's in my Mocks... But in the real exams I had all A's.... Sometimes pressure brings out the best in you.

Well in our old school our teachers always put our grades a few levels lower to try and make us work harder, it really worked on some people who cared though.

Back in my day (2000AD) GCSEs hadn't been completely devalued. I still resent the one B I got for German.

Maths & History A*
Geography, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, English Lit, English Lang A
German B Fuck you Deutschland

EDIT FOR CLARITY: I don't hate Germany. I hate my GCSE German teacher, the fact that English school kids get poor language support and my naturally 'stupid ears' that can't hear anything not pronounced in a NW London accent.

Probably because they want you to succede. Believe me, your life would be a lot harder if they didn't want you to. Mind you, my GCSEs were mediocre, as were my AS levels. My A-Levels, however...2 As, a C and a D. And this was the Cambridge International A Level, so there was no coursework.

I'm one of those idiots people say "If only he applied himself he'd be an A grade student" but I'm lazy and happy in the knowledge I could have done better if only I cared.

Same here, my teacher Ancient Languages even said that if I tried I would be about the smartest kid in the whole school. Unfortunately I am really indifferent about school and can't be arsed to do even a bit of homework except for studying sometimes.

Who cares, GSCEs are worthless in the real world? They serve one purpose and one purpose only and that's to determine weather you get to do Highers or A Levels. I did no study whatsoever for my GSCEs, sorry Standard Grades, as I knew fine well all I needed was to get a B or even a C to be allowed to then go on and do the Highers. Hell I even did a Higher in a subject I didn't even do as a GCSE.

Hell yeah! I'll modus pwnens you! Kant touch this!

Enough of that. Yeah, I totally lucked out on my GCSEs (They said do the backwards caveman english exam, but I was all no way, and I got a B, so I showed them)

And recently, I had some experience with the new A-levels (took up a new A-level on the new syllabus this year, since I couldn't do it last year) and got a B there, despite missing at least 60% of the lessons, turning up to the exam late and doing no revision.

No idea if they were getting easier before, but this last year seems to be a definite one.

P.S. A-level maths, that's where quadratic equations are needed.

Same with me didn't do any homework in the last 2 years of school and did little work in classes still managed to pass all the courses I took.

We like you too :)
But to be honest, i can understand you. German grammar is a real pain.
I should clarify. I actually quite like the Germans I've met. Very friendly one and all.

However, as a product of the English education system and not naturally skilled at languages or music, being forced to learn a language I didn't want to and didn't prove good at, left a bad taste in my mouth.

I'd quite like to visit the Rhineland and Berlin. I like sausages and beer!
