Right now, it seems to me that the 360 is about as good as it's going to get.

The PS3 is under-achieving because people would rather stick to the tried, tested and familiar paths of the 360 rather than taking a risk and actually using the PS3 to its full potential. I realise some of you are too young / stupid to remember this, but EVERY SINGLE CONSOLE goes through the same pattern. Every single one.

Pick any console, and compare the first generation of games to the last. You will see notable improvements.

Let's take as an example, and I'm already wanting to stab myself in the face for doing it, Tomb Raider. Mechanically speaking, Chronicles (that was the last PSX one I think) is FAR better than the original. In theory, there's no reason they couldn't have started with Chronicles-level quality, but they didn't. Why should they? No sense investing bucketloads into a game that might not pay off. Instead, it's better to use 20% of the system, then 25% in the sequel, then jump to 35% because a competing game came out that used 30%...

The point is it will take time for the PS3 to really start to shine.

The library of games is quite limited at the moment, yes. ... And when the likes of RE 5 and FF XII come out. I'm sure we can expect to see more fly off the shelves.
If memory serves me right RE4 jumped to multi-console, so I'd think same will go for RE5.

But then again, I'm not sure how many people saw FF XII's announcement that it would be on the 360 coming.
I think that sort of proves what I typed up in previous post, the whole "insert PS exclusive here making jump to 360 is more likely" thing

Ah, leave him alone... He'll learn or he'll die.

EDIT: Not a deaththreat, but a banthreat.
Huh? you mean I can get banned for saying that none of my friends own PS3 and that I (I repeat "I", singular, my personal opinion, which I dont force on anyone) think that PS3 has failed can get me banned? wow... noth said, go-go American freedom of speech (waves the flag and munches down an apple pie)(for those who didn't guess that was sarcasm)

Srsly though, I stated my personal opinion. Its your choice to agree or disagree. If I made an impression of someone who will defend his point with a zeal, no matter how flawed it is, and will take it as far as mindless bashing and insults - than I was misunderstood.

EDIT: Just thought about it. How long will this Gen of consoles last? 2 more years? 3? How long has it been since it started? Hmmm... Id say PS4 better have some strong exclusives line up for lunch (an not the same way as they did for PS3) or their console gonna start "catching up in sales" same way as PS3 does now, 2 years later after everyone who is anyone got their hands on one of other 2 consoles and had plenty of time to save money for second or third.

Again, No offenses meant to anyone, especially you, almighty banhammer gods. (sarcasm)
Well, you did seem to give of a vibe of rabid fanboy by calling the PS3 an "epic fail". But if you are not, my apologies.

Ok, I don't want this to turn in to a PS3 vs 360 thread so I'll just summarise the arguements for and against Gears of War 2 for the PS3 and see what the possibilities are:
For: Anything is possible
Exclusives have been jumping ship all over the place
Gears 2 is primarily produced by EPIC, not Microsoft
The game is so popular that far more profit would be made releasing it multi-platform

Against: Gears is published by Microsoft, therefore making it extremely unlikely (luckily this is an immensely strong point because I can't think of any others against)!

Conclusion: Not very useful but I'm still clueless to whether it can happen or not. Sorry.

Like I said, the sales are quickly catching up to the 360. Last i checked, it was somewhere in the region of 5 million behind the 360. And it came out a year later! So, "epic fail" is silly and rash. Obviously the Wii is running miles ahead of both.
If by "quickly" you mean "it might have caught up by 2010" then yeah. Of course, by 2010 the buzz will be about the next generation of consoles.
Well, lets look at this rationally. The Ps3 hasn't released a 5th of its major exclusives yet, and yet is still within reaching distance of the 360. It has 12 - yes, 12 - major exclusives released next year, as opposed to the 360s 1 (I'll give it Alan Wake, that sounds semi-interesting. Oh give me a break - a console RTS? A last gen JRPG with just upgraded graphics? A nothing-but-name hack and slash thats only known distinguishing feature is that it will be "easier than Ninja Gaiden to appeal to casual gamers"?). What do you think is going to happen to its sales?
Is it SO hard for you to stop fanning the fanboy flames? Your rediculous statements in every thread are making me feel physically ill.

Who gives a damn which console is winning? Just go and play some games, for christ sakes.

PS3 is an epic fail imho. I dont know anyone who owns PS3. Everyone I asked owns either XBox or Wii, or both. But when it comes to PS3, ppl seem to have trouble finding good games for it.
have both, 360 won in epic cage fight to the death with red and green gummi bears

Okay, I am back to clarify things here.

You seem to be seriously getting the ideas of "Produced" and "Published" confused and crossed.

Say I am a writer. I write a novel. I am the "Producer" because I wrote it. Are you following me thus far? Now I need some company to "Publish" my book because it is finished. That means they print it and put it in stores for people to buy. To get the book "Published" I have to sign a contact with the "Publisher". They now own the exclusive "Publishing" rights to my book. I can never get another company besides this company to "Publish" my of dollars. The second company would also most likely get sued to hell and back too.

So, still following me? Epic are like the writer of the book, as is every "Developer" of any game. They write, draw, 3d model, program, texture, render and make the games. This is all very true. But like any writer, they need a "Publisher" to get the game pressed to disk and put into stores so people can buy it. This is Microsoft Games with the Gears of War series. They are the legal "Publisher". They hold ALL legal rights to publishing Gears of War anywhere in the world on any platform imaginable. So in no way is it Epic's decision to publish Gears of War anymore, it is Microsoft's. Epic did this because Microsoft Games paid them serious cash to stay on the 360. This in turn automatically guarantee's Epic a large chuck of cash to offset the development costs that they incurred while making Gears of War. This is VERY good for Epic.

Now, as to why Microsoft Games would rather die a slow death than give the gaming juggernaut that is Gear of War to their competition, which is Sony and the PS3. Sony and Microsoft are in a desperate fight to sell consoles. They want and need every edge they can get to try and defeat the other in this console war. This is how this has always been done. Sega VS Nintendo, Nintendo VS Sony, ect. The Gears of War series has proven to be a new flag ship series for the 360 next to Halo and Fable. Why would Microsoft want to give one of it's console selling games to Sony and the PS3? Saying that they would is just illogical because they never would, ever.

And that is a basic explanation of how the relationship between developers and publishers work.

Yeah, it'll probably take a fun little trip with a bludgeon to Epic's headquarters, and Microsoft's Publishing (something).

But we can all do it, I think. But seriously, I wouldn't even want it. I don't want the PS3 owners to get a good game.

I mean come on! Look at the PS3's sales and look at the 360's sales. The PS3 barely amounts to half of the 360's sales.
Ahhh this is irony the fan boys of Xbox in the last gen console wars used to us the argument of how many of those PS2s sold were replacements for busted PS2s well who would of though that that question could be applied to XBox 360 sales, but it still holds, just how many of those 360 sales are replacements for 360s that have busted?

Axia777 you seem to have access to a temporal shifting device that has allowed you to see the future of the console market. Yes whilst it seems unlikely that Gears will appear on the PS no one, and that includes Microsoft and Sony can say what will happen in the future. Like someone else has already pointed out who could have predicated that Sonic would appear on a Nintedno console 15 years ago?

Just thought about it. How long will this Gen of consoles last? 2 more years? 3? How long has it been since it started? Hmmm... Id say PS4 better have some strong exclusives line up for lunch (an not the same way as they did for PS3) or their console gonna start "catching up in sales" same way as PS3
Lots of things wrong with that statement.

Firstly maybe the 360 will last another two years, how long did the XBox get, I think it managed a grand two and a half years in the UK compared to the PS2s almost six. The guy behind Playstation has said that the PS3 has a potential planned shelf life of ten years. That could be a big worry for competitors or a big worry for Sony.

Second exclusive titles are a dying breed, it's generally acknowledged that the cost and development times of modern games is so high that you can't afford to not have a multi format release. By the time the next gen console roll around you'll find that the only exclusives will be coming from first party developers.

Just to point out, Microsoft has said that they don't include the new consoles they send, because of RRoD into the list.

And I think in sales he meant games sales, not console sales, since we're, you know, talking about a game and all.

Is Unreal Tourney on PS3?

if so, then GOW2 might be ported to the PS3

things are going crazy this year (FF13 on XBOX!?!)

Wow this thread is so Unreal its like the Fanboy Tournament to see who is the most fanboyish/1337/Epic. I guess we are all a gear in this war of the consoles but try to be realistic Microsoft is not selling the IP anytime soon and is not not going belly up like SEGA did.

Now off to ride the Brumak with Ted Price.

If Gears comes out for Ps3 i will be shocked, but I will be happy because it will allow more people to play it, thus ending the rants of the Jaded PS3 fans who hate GOW.

But in a logical sort of way I highly aporetic about it because Microsoft is co-producing and publishing it, and I doubt they will be willing to fork out the franchise to Sony.
the only way this is conceivably possible is that EPIC terminates its contract with M$, buys the rights for full distribution of the title, and then redesigns the game from the ground up for the PS3.

-not a likely scenario

I'm confused. People complained on about the MGS4 on 360 rumour, so why start a thread about Gears on PS3?

Are you people even LISTENING to yourselves and your very weak excuses? It is like you are all arguing just for the sake of arguing. Gears of War will NOT come to the PS3, and I'll show why the most common arguments here are terrible:

The "never say never" and "you never know what the future holds" excuse. The ONLY way that the PS3 could get Gears is if Microsoft and Sony decide to start working together, and frankly, that is about as likely as Iran, Iraq, Israel, and Saudi Arabia combining to become a single nation. Hell, I could say that "world peace" is likely using this retarded excuse, but it won't happen. They have no reason to, and they don't even want to. Sony and Microsoft are major competitors, they won't be working together anytime soon, and they damn sure won't be giving away their potential customers by swapping exclusives that they published.

The "well, Sonic is on Nintendo consoles" excuse. People, the point has not only clearly gone over your head, it is now in the upper atmosphere. The Sega/Nintendo and Microsoft/Sony thing are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Sega was in the hole. Their consoles weren't selling enough units to keep them afloat, and they were focusing on too many at one time. They decided to leave the console business because they couldn't keep up and were losing tons of money. However, they didn't want to leave the game industry, they knew how lucrative it could be. So they decided to stay in the software market and just make games for other consoles. Now, unless you expect Sega to make games for the ImaginaryCubeStation 2, then they sorta have to make games on consoles like the GameCube or Wii. They didn't chose this because they wanted to. They chose it because they were making less money than a hooker with gonorrhea, syphilis, and herpes in the console market. Towards the end of the Dreamcast they were selling only a few units a month, if that. They couldn't afford to keep making consoles, but they could afford to keep making games and put them on other consoles.

The "well, Unreal Tournament is on the PS3" excuse. Cocking Hell people, UNREAL TOURNAMENT 3 IS NOT PUBLISHED BY MICROSOFT. What part of that is so hard to understand?

Lastly, I assume that the references to the PC version of Gears of War is "proof" that it will come to the PS3. I won't even dignify that excuse with a proper response because it is so stupid. It is like me saying that because a Mario game for the GameCube gets a DS port then that is proof that it will come to the PSP.

Again, no matter how hard you try to twist the very fabric of reality with these weak excuses, it just will not happen.

So, for the last time, Gears of War coming to the PS3 is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Well considering you can download torrents onto the PS3 harddrive.

You can download emulators onto the PS3 harddrive.

Then obviously when an emulaor comes out for 360, Gears2 will be on PC and PS3.... technicly.

Rage! RAAAAAAGEEEE! hahahaha XD.

Seriously, chill the fuck out man, we all know its never going to happen, hell most of us on the PS3 side don't want it happen either. It would do worse in sales than it did for PC. And its not just lack of people owning the system, its lack of intrest in what, we all know, would be a shitty half assed port.

I don't want gears anyway, I hated the first one, way too slow.
