All over the place he may be, but one place where he will not set foot is the horror genre. "I can't distance myself from things I'm watching, so I don't keep a professional distance," he said. "I'm the guy that cries in Bambi and jumps in thriller movies."
Wait a minute, isn't this the Gears of War guy we're talking about?

Whoa, that confuses me. Well, it's good to see that this guy isn't doing a Bill Gates and broadening his horizons as a result. It's good for the industry.

EDIT: I cried in Bambi, but most horror games have bored me after I played The White Chamber. Bioshock did a good job of it, though.

Well I remember Cliffy B. said in an interview that he acknowledged that Halo was a 'really great game' so I can't say I'm surprised.
I come to understand that Bungie Studios (Halo, duh) and Guerrilla studios (KIllzone, again duh) both get along quite well despite the fact that fans of either franchise are constantly in a bloody war between each other.
I like that Kojima likes Gears by the way.

I like this in general it shows good sportsmanship and tolerance, something the game industry needs a lot of.

Why is there a problem with using a 'rival' companies products anyway? If I worked in a car company (say, Jaguar) then I'd still probably drive a Fiat Panda unless I was specifically given a company car. If I worked for Apple then I'd still have my same laptop which runs Windows Vista, and keep that particular O/S. Does it matter too much, as long as the end product is good quality anyway? And it's not as if Killzone and Gears are really rivals anyway, any more than Halo and Gears or Final Fantasy and Star Ocean are rival series. I play Gears, Halo, Lost Planet and god knows how many other FPS's, but I've always wanted to work for Bungie as a developer, so where's the problem there? Same goes for the guy in this story.

Only playing your own work would get very boring very fast. Who wouldn't play the competitions work, it would be both a good learning experience and more entertaining than playing the game you spent more than a year working on and know better than the back of your hand.
That's what I was thinking. He would know the game, maybe the encounters, nothing would be a surprise.

I have to say though, Killzone 2 looks pretty damn good, shame I've got an Xbox 360...

I concur. I'm pretty sick of all the fanboys whinging about how game A is better than game B. Because we all know that game X wins.

RE5 isn't in the horror genre?
Not really, it's more or less just a fast paced action co-op game. I won both RE 4 and 5. And while RE 4 is a horror game, RE 5 is not.
Getting chased by a horde of zombies isn't that scary when you have enough ammo to take down a herd of wildebeest.

In that regard, L4D does a good job of balancing ammo for horror.
