Hello Internet! Though the general Gears of war 3 beta opens on Monday the 25th, Bulletstorm owners have access to it for an additional week starting yesterday. Now I've played it for a bit and it fantastic. Some aiming issues are present, but otherwise it incredibly fun. Anyone else get the beta early and want to weigh in?

Been having a lot of fun, though I'm not the best player, or indeed, a very competent player yet. So far I can say that I absolutely hate the sawn-off shotgun and grenades.

Oh, and chainsawing dudes is just as fun and fulfilling as it has always been!

Playing it now. The game is still very shotgun-centric, but the rifles are now very powerful. I'm a fan of the Retro Lancer, and I've been meaning to try out the new Hammerburst - I like its accuracy and the new ironsights.

I'm a little annoyed that there are now given strategies that every group employs. I'm sick of everyone running to the upper stands in Thrashball for example. But that can't be helped.

Having a whale of a time otherwise! I'm very impressed at the lack of any sort of delay and latency - maybe that is because it is only the second day.

I'm getting into the beta Monday, and my friend and I were going to test several things out. It'd be a great help if anyone could answer my questions now.

1) Do female characters have the same hitboxes as male characters
2) Is wallbouncing as bad as it was in previous games
3) Do smoke grenades stun again. If so, how bad is it, compared to day 1 Gears of War 2
4) How do incendiary grenades compare to ink and frag grenades
5) Does reloading still give your gun a damage boost
6) How much have the rifles been buffed
7) Pertaining to the mantle-kick: Does someone who is already attatched to cover have an advantage over someone who just attatched to the other side of that cover.

1) As far as I know, yes!
2) On one of the maps "Checkout" - which usually dissolves into a shotgun dance, it can be.
3) They do, but in a clever way. You can still move about, but can't aim or rodie run for a couple of moments. Then it's all back to normal. They smoke effect is great, and I think the range of the stun has been reduced.
4) In my brief experience, Incendiary grenades are okay, but not great. A direct "hit" will be an insta-kill, if it hits the floor stepping on it is more-or-less as deadly as being in ink, and I haven't seen much of a use for wall-mounting them. They're fun and with good aim, very deadly.
5) Yes.
6) They can now kill things. Very good. The Hammerburst is useful because it has zero recoil - even when constantly firing across a long range. The Lancer I've... actually not used. The Retro lancer is good - the bayonet is not a gamebreaker, and the heavy recoil balances the slight damage advantage over other rifles.
7) I honestly don't know.

So the incendiary is basically an ink grenade that doesn't obscure vision and kills with a direct hit.

Do people constantly throw smokes at you then rush you with a shotgun?

And how sure are you about the hitboxes? Because Epic, in one of their Unreal Tournament games, gave female avatars smaller hitboxes. And I've heard people say that some GoW characters (Carmines, Baird, Skorge) have different hitboxes.

People throw smokes all of the time, and they can try to rush you, but because the stun has been weakened and the smoke effect is huge, it's very easy to hide in it, away from it, or use it to move to a completely different place altogether that it isn't necessarily a disadvantage. At least that is what I've found.

Fair do's on the hitbox thing though - I'm not certain. To be honest I've not noticed a difference between playing as Anya, Cole Train, or Dom, but I'm not the type of person to be bothered by that sort of thing. I doubt it is a gamebreaker.

Edit: Only hit detection annoyance I've experienced (playing as Anya too, if that helps) is the Retro Lancer charge. Seriously, I'm on even within the pointy end of their charge but I get hit.

One last question I forgot. Is roadie run-roll-roadie run-roll still the fastest way to move, or is it now faster just to roadie run without rolling.

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

Probably. I'm playing now - I'll check and get back to you in 10. I'm going to assume it still is, though.

Edit: In a match. Yes it is. Very much so.
