Polish is always welcomed. Seriously, we should all be thankful if anything! What if Microsoft wanted the reverse: Rush the game early for the holidays, yeah we don't give a damn if it's "ready" or not, we want our cut!

I just hope that they actually focus more on ground combat that is less interrupted by senseless rail-shooting and "eh" vehicle sections.

Anyways, this brings up a great point for Microsoft: you need some big namers. Halo has ended officially to a large group of fans, Gears is (more than likely) ending with this one, don't depend on a sequel for Alan Wake unless you want to wait a long time, don't expect Crackdown to shine again (especially since the first developer went under and the second seems to be lacking in the idea department), Fable 3 is just coming out this month so you'll need to wait a bit for another one, Mass Effect has officially crossed consoles and Dead Rising went with it.
Precisely. Right now, Microsoft's exclusive offerings that are not Kinect-related are looking a bit paltry now. They need to shock the lineup and not get stuck in a rut. Just because Mario, Samus, and Link aren't washed up addicts on the curb after all of these years, that does not mean that fate can also elude Master Chief and The Chickens The Heroes of Fable. It makes the forcible entry into the Wii's turf with Kinect even more of a resentful action due to less money for games. :(

Even though Gears is by far one of my favorite shooters and I wish it would come out sooner, I'm not really upset by this.
Honestly, this is a smart business move. If you release it around the holidays you'll more than likely sell more copies.
Also, the 5 extra months to polish the game doesn't sound terrible either. Even when a game looks good, there's always things you can work on more, so hopefully this turns out to be a good thing.

How do you make a statement like that? >_>
The fall season of '11 looks a bit pathetic for games so far for pretty much all consoles. I'm sure we'll see more games announced in the coming year, but as of now the fall looks subpar.

No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

If they want to drive sales, release the game when NOTHING ELSE is coming out. You know, like the beginning of Spring. ARGH!

Wow Good job M$. You should all go die. It's so f@#king stupid that they announce the game A YEAR IN ADVANCE like A-holes and now after waiting 7 months and release date getting closer they DELAY IT SO THE RELEASE DATE IS ONE F@#KING YEAR AWAY AGAIN! I was looking forward to playing this over the summer with friends before i started college but now i guess they've lost a bunch of sales becasue i know nobody I know is going to buy it beacause of the timing. The only reason it's going to sell more near the holidays is becasue neglectful parents (the ones who are the main supporters of the Supreme court case next month) buy it for their god damn 12 year old and then we have to play with said pre-teens who absolutely suck at the game and break your eardrums with their high pitch voices who really should not be playing the game and should go play games their age.

Looks like they're trying to cash in on Christmas, hopefully 2011 won't be overbloated with Christmas releases like 2009 was.

I think it has to do with cutting off Sony exclusives. Microsoft and Sony are always jockeying for the best release dates, so with this move, they plan on taking out one of Sony's big hitters: Killzone 3.

Killzone 3 is still slated for an early release. Sure, now it will make more in that time period because it isn't competing with Gears, but now, Gears will soak up the holiday market after the KZ3 hype has died down.

Am I the only one that thinks they're going to debate all this time on whether to kill another Carmine brother or not?

Five months for polish is a long time. I have a hunch that "polish" in this case means "playing Halo: Reach all afternoon."
heck yeah that's a long time...and ya that was basically what I was thinking hahaha (friend of mine is now addicted to Gears 2...well I suppose it's all well and good cuz I've played that game wayy too much by now haha)

You're thinking like a gamer here, but we aren't the only ones that shop. A christmas release is probably the only time you'll find mom, dad, grandma and everyone else who ISN'T a gamer poking around in Gamestop, Best Buy or Wal-mart for a loved one's console. And the gamers of course will also be there, just like they would for a spring release. More potential customers = more sales.

True, but first I don't think Grandma and mom should be buying this game for little Jimmy. Just my opinion though. Second, Gears will now have to compete with other games that come out the same time, and since every game will be the same price, Gears will have to hope it has an edge in everyone's mind, otherwise it will be loosing sales to other games (unless, of course, there's nothing coming out, in which case this is void). Finally, if Gears releases early, it will get the fans, and people who aren't sure what to get, right away. If you give a man a warm bottle of water and he has had nothing to drink for three days, he'll down it without complaint. Same thing. If you give gamers a fresh, triple A game in the "gaming drought" season, they'll buy it. Finally, Gears 3 will still be there at Christmas for those who didn't already buy it. If Microsoft was smart, they'd even lower the prince by ten or fifteen dollars, giving Gears an edge by being cheaper than the new releases at Christmas time. Seems like a good plan to me, anyway.
