Before finding out about the origins of the Deathclaws, I always figured they descended from radiation affected house cats. Think about it, both species do share a lot of common traits.

Maybe cats are one of the animals spliced into the deathclaw pre war.

In Fallout:New Vegas there's enough of an economic surplus to support tourism.

FEV, most likely. Radiation isn't the cause of most mutations in the fallout world, FEV (Forced Evolutionary Virus) is.

New Vegas is a special case because it had a mostly functioning ABM system designed by Robert House. The rest of the world, for some insane reason, did not.

I had no idea there were friendly Deathclaws! I've only played Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, all the Deathclaws I encountered attacked on me sight.

Bloatflies are called bloatflies because they have a gas-filled bladder that takes up most of the space in their abdomen, which is what allows them to fly despite having tiny wings. They're practically buoyant in the atmosphere. It's also why they tend to explode when killed.

This! They also shoot their maggots as projectiles. I believe this is all explained when you go see Dr Duffy at the science centre in diamond city. Its gamma rays according to the good doctor not more plentiful oxygen.
