There is something I have wondered at for a while now, and I'll get right to the point.

Why is it that throughout history, the majority of cultures have been patriarchal or at least egalitarian? Rarely, if ever (I know of no examples) has there been a culture in which women dominate to the extent that men did, and in some areas still do.

Why is this? I can't think of any real reason why this should be the case, but it is and has been, all across the globe, in cultures that have had little to no contact with each other.

Thoughts?

I'm really not informed on this matter, but in my experience, when it comes to smaller communities matriarchies seem extremely common. I don't know why there's a switch once it gets larger.

Why are males worth more than females?
On average women earn between 71-74 cents for every dollar earned by men, for doing the same job! Over time this adds up. The average 25-year-old working woman will lose more than $523,000 to unequal pay during her working life. These figures are even worse for women of color. African American women earn only 67 cents and Latinas 55 cents for every dollar that men earn.

Do men deserve to earn more?
Because they deserve to, argues Warren Farrell in his book Why Men Earn More: The Startling Truth Behind the Pay Gap -- and What Women Can Do About It a contrarian challenge to feminist conventional wisdom. Men work longer hours at more dangerous and disagreeable jobs. They more readily accept night shifts, hardship postings to Alaska and entrepreneurial risks. Men get in-demand degrees in engineering, while women get degrees in French literature. Female librarians earn less than garbagemen, not because of discrimination, but because so many applicants compete for the safe, clean, comfortable, convenient, fulfilling jobs women prefer.

Interesting fact, but how exactly is it relevant to this thread?

Well because the convinient safe clean e.t.c it does not reflect only on a woman's job it also shows in their lifestyle, the superior physique of an averange man compared to the averange woman creates a huge gap in the capabilities fo the diffrent sexes, and it also shows through the history, women were inferior (and still are irreletively if they deserve equality or not) because of that fact, i suppose that the point of view "women give birth to children, take care of the house" e.t.c.

What if they were in the same job, same times, same everything; what then?

Because those are the Gender roles that Humanity has used for millennia.

Instinct is hard to shake.

This is not to say that women cannot lead or are in any way lesser, the human mind simply reverts to patriarchy out of habit.

It's all there, read it carefully.
Women will still be underpaid.

Oh, I see. Hmm. I'm not sure what I think about that.

But why though? How did it become established, and all over the world in isolated cultures to boot? Is it an instinctive thing, maybe?

There is a point there also, Most women (not all) are easy to provoke emotionally (espetially during period) and nobody wants an psycologically unstable person to lead them
either it is a queen either a company president, that's also the reason why all high work positions are occupied by men, We simply posses more stable psychology and have our emotions under control.

Which is horrible. Two humans. One lacks a penis so that one gets paid less for the same thing. You'd think in this modern society, we would have shaken that by now.

There were a few queens here and there, but as you said, matriarchies aren't nearly as prevalant as patriarchies are. It's probably because for centuries, men did the hunting and kept the home safe while the women cooked and took care of children. Old habits die hard, I suppose.

You'd think that, but you'd be wrong.

It's horrible, I agree. But we're talking about how things are and have been, not how they should be.

really males acheived early dominance in soceity when explosive strength was what was required, and being fat and helpless for 9 months was extremely bad. remember this was while we had just (or not quite yet) become technically homo sapien('s?) soceity evolved but in nearly all tribes males had dominance, now shit may have changed now and females dont all HAVE to get pregnant for the survival of the species (and in fact its advantagous to us if fewer do so) but we still have those tribal roots, and it seems its worked its way into our brains. but beyond that, theres good ol fashioned quiet prejudice, anyone in a homogenous group of people will fight to keep it the same as previously stated males (to use an RTS whatsitcalled) gained early game dominance. theres a whole bunch of other shit, but im not thinking very clearly right now
