Gender Switch a Game

Deus Ex... the first one. J.C. Denton as a woman. It wouldn't change the core gameplay but dammit if it wouldn't make the game better. Think of that tight agent suit hugging a woman's body instead of J.C.'s robust and muscular one. The trench coat can stay, I'm not really an assman (but I do like a good bum, show it in a added cut-scene I suppose).

Also, it would change the tension between J.C. and Navarre; now there isn't only the physical difference between Augs and Mechs - but also that J.C. still looks a natural woman, but still with powers that out-perform Mechs. This would add another dynamic to the rivalry between Navarre and J.C. (and by extension also Gunther who seemingly doesn't respect any other woman than Navarre, possibly to the end of actually being affectionate towards her) since Navarre sacrificed her looks for performance on the field.

I would also like to see if this make a difference in the women's-bathroom incident joke that could be triggered if J.C. entered the Women's bathroom and was spotted by one of the female employees. Would Manderley still chew you out if J.C., as a woman, had entered the Men's bathroom?

So much would change!! O_O

Thinking about it, I have to admit many video game protagonists would have been far more interesting just by being a woman. The Assassin's Creed protagonists, John Marston, mostly the serious ones, to be honest. The tongue-in-cheek roles somehow appear better with guys playing them...

No, really, keep the hair-bodysuit and the over the top clips, but make it a dude. Bayonet. And keep the moves the way they are, including the awkward turn to camera foto-finish and the 'let's dance boys'.

And don't make him feminine in any bodily way. Full on Marcus Gears of War Space Marine male gruff macho.

I think Assassins Creed could be interesting with a female protagonist especially in a 1950's setting or something.

i wouldn't be surprised if this happens [the Female Protagonist part] [well the 50's cud be a setting but i think that has a lower chance]

She would have been relegated to just another dude in armor but because she has two XX chromosomes, we became intrigued and followed her tales for a long, long time. And that's fine. I'm not against Samus but it has made me think.

I'm gonna point out a few flaws here. If it's because she's a girl that people like her, then why are Mario (a dude in overalls) and Link (a dude in a tunic) still popular.

People didn't become intrigued because she's a girl, they became intrigued because the original Metroids are damn good games. We followed her tales for a long time because Nintendo has (generally <_<) good quality control, and likes to keep their franchises open.

In making this topic you singled her out from the other no-background protagonists simply by her gender. I hope I don't have to explain what that means...

Actually, in making this topic, I mostly wanted to share my idea of a gender switched Splatterhouse and then discuss the role of gender in video games.

Most won't really change anything to significant. Cailey McGrath would still zap things, Shamus Aran would still shoot and roll over things, Miss. 47 would still fiber wire things. No big difference.
Diana Nukem would be freaking hilarious. Natascha Drake seems ironic to me for some reason, there doesn't seem to be many overly-cocky-bordering-douchbag female characters in games. A female Solid Snake, or preferably a Naked Snake, would be interesting, but not much of a change. Stealth, shoot, some CQC mixed in there. Though the Ass close-ups would be far more enjoyable....

Dante and Trish swapped. Having the thin, waifish girl who could destroy armies of undead rescuing the lighting-throwing hardass from his evil creator. Also, it'd make that Devil May Cry 3 jacket a whole lot more interesting.

Also, Grace Fuckin' Hotspur, going to rescue her hubby Paul from the Demon Queen.

And for the last one, Alucard Tepes, daughter of Draula, falling in love with Mario Renard, who is in turn in love with Rianna Belmont.

its interesting I alway thourght about what if desmond was a chick? it wouldnt really change much (at least for the first couple of games) and it would be a cool way to bring the series into the modern setting (if it ever gets there that is...)

anyway Infamous could totally work...I would imagnine her to be like Zoey from left 4 dead

or Red action gurrelga..like if they gave you the option like SR2...hell nearly ANY game could work (exceot duke...well actualy....)

I wonder what would change in Half-Life if Gordon Freeman wasn't the "The One Free Man." The Alex relationship in Half-Life 2 and her episodes might be awkward or just straight lesbian, unless they made her Eli Vance's son. Then that would make all of Alex's actions seem more chivalrous than just bad-ass.
