Good luck to him. I am getting sick of this "Don't mess with Anonymous" fear that so many people seem to feel.
As am I. While I respect Anonymous's noble attempts, such as "Cheer Up Keanu" day, for the most part Anonymous is a terrible, terrible thing. I hope Mr. Simmons succeeds.
this is basically what "i" was trying to say before people assumed i was a fox news junkie who got a hard-on whenever someone says "Obama is a socialist"

this is why internet trolls should really suffer... it's not that i want to see piracy be taken away (i rather like not having to make life decisions when i want to listen to the latest Megadeth album) i want them to stop abusing their power and taking down anyone who slightly angers them... because that makes them dangerous in more ways than one

Okay, so Gene wants to sue house and home over a $1.29 song, that's warranting a judicial review since that goes well beyond the allowed amount granted by the court (there is a limit to how much one can sue for over what would equate to a misdemeanor.) Now the people who download thousands of full CDs, movies, and other digital mediums should be held accountable but less than an album of music does not a major felony make.

As for his war against anon, supposedly getting a few hackers (or internet terrorists) is more than most but he has to find the big ones with the FBI's help, they're the only people anon will probably not try to mess with. If anon tries the FBI they'll find out what a multi-million dollar a year cyber defense and crime lab can do, which boils down to bending anon over with a cactus. Should he not get the help of a major cyber organization he will fail miserably though I do like his promise to publicly reveal the identity of caught anon members, certain poetry to that.

Either case I'll enjoy the show

I really have no sympathy for Simmons, and I really don't want to back him. Why does he back those outrageous penalties and fines for downloading a song that costs less than a dollar?

"Take their hones, their cars, don't let anybody cross that line."

Really? Take their fucking homes? Is that the kind of justice he wants?

Agreed. Anon has hacked peoples' bank accounts because they think it's funny.

Anon must die.

well so much for liking simmons, he sounds like a pretty big dick
He's after Lars Ulrich's crown and King Prick. Seriously, you did perfectly fine before with music piracy, where people taped songs off the radio and copied albums for their friends, you'll be fine now. All bands know it's live shows that get the money in.

Heh, there is irony in putting a face to anon members, but I'd say they stop being a part of anonymous when they are no longer anonymous.
Like taking a cup of water from a river. As soon as it is out of the river, it is not a part of it.

As for what the FBI can do, I don't think they can do shit all.
Their efforts in the past certainly haven't done much.

In other news, the United States is still hunting terrorists in Afghanistan nine years later.

Seriously, it's the same thing. He has incredible might behind him, but anon can hide all over the internet. The idiots might get caught, but the smart ones can bounce their IP all over the world and either become untraceable or make tracing them so complicated and difficult that they won't bother. And that's if he gets the legal grounds to trace them, which is a dubious proposition at the very best.

Personally, I want to see Anonymous sap him of lots of money and energy before he finally throws up his hands and gives up. I think Gene Simmons is head and shoulders better than most in the entertainment business, but anyone who declares war on Anonymous is basically chewing on the business end of a shotgun. Anon FTW.
^

The funny thing is he thinks he is going after a set number of people.
Pretty sure if he knew what Anon was, he'd re-think his words.

"I don't like water! I am going to fight water!"
'?have you seen the ocean?'
I do love how people are shoving this to extremes. Everyone says he's going to go after people who download one or two songs. MAYBE that is the case, but don't you think he'll go after distributors, MASS pirates, and the other people doing this on a mass scale before he goes after people that pirate one or two songs?

Well, Gene's got one hell of a fight ahead of him. People have tried to combat Anonymous, and it's simply too big and... random... to be fought using orthodox methods.

Thats something I hadn't thought of before, but makes much more sense.
If he went after the sites that host pirated stuff, that would be much easier to do than fight Anonymous.
But that is not the title of this thread is it?

NNO it's it's not the title of the thread, but it's what he said he'd do. Go after everyone who pirates and steals. He never said "Those anonymous sons of bitches are going down. You need a plan to work off of. You don't just shove your dick in a beehive and hope they suffocate. You work systematically. Wading into something without a plan is an idiot's idea, and it's not the way Gene Simmons thinks.

He'll probably go after the major people first, and when they find stupider and stupider ways to attack him (rather than redirecting him to Piratebay because he might try to get that closed first), he'll starting hitting at them.

Everyone assume he's just going to ATTACK Anon with no idea of what he's doing. The man is not stupid.

The greatest irony here would be the fact, that his very own son Nick, plagiarized a bunch of Bleach, Hellsing, Prototype (honestly the list is hella long) and yes, even Deviant artists! For his stupid comic "Incarnate" which was the biggest pile of theft one could imagine, and then tried to profit off of this junk. So, Gene, before you go trying to fix Anonymous or down-loaders, fix your own damn son first!

In this particular case I'm gonna side with Anonymous. Gene Simmons sounds like a giant tool. Sue every kid who ever downloaded a song? You, sir, are an idiot, and you had this coming for making such an ass-backwards ignorant statement.
Sounds like somebody enjoys their illegal free music...

I'm on Simmon's side here. If I had to pick whether 4chan or Gene Simmons was allowed to exist, it's Simmons every time. Sorry Anonymous, but you're just a bit too fucktarded for me.
I am so glad you can't pick. Anonymous is a culture, gene is an idiot.

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy!

Either we're looking at a good performance, or a one-scene amateur hour with an abrupt ending.

I'm pretty sure Anon will win, per usual. People threaten them everyday. I doubt this will be much different.

you'd honestly have a better chance of stopping the wind than stopping the legion anon.
