Can I quote you in an ED Article?
Well I have no idea what an ED article is but by all means. Dont feel you have to ask somebody for permission to quote them, unless you are saying it in some sort of sarcastic gesture. Please explain what an ED article is.
Gene Simmons is influential, he represents the zenith (or nadir, depending on perspective) of the merchandising marauder who can only thing of musical success in terms of dollar and cents. And maybe STDs.derelix said:You seem to be defending this group simply because you disagree with Gene. He is not the head of the FBI, he is not running the RIAA, why does he need to be shut up?
Why is he not allowed to spread his ignorant opinion like anon and every other person online is? Because he didn't hide behind a screen name?
he threatened legal action. DRM causes legal actions to be taken against people who try to continue to use something that they bought which is no longer compatible. This is stupid and uncalled for. People don't like this, and as such they continue to rebel. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but you aren't allowed to threaten legal action and seizure of property against random people.AceAngel said:Anon's are over-reacting a great deal. Is not a man entitled to his opinion? Why are they bothered by him?
So by my calculations: all the Anon's either entered their Period stage, and need to throw a hissy fit everytime someone does/says something.
All in all, Gene may be a large twat, but I'll side with him (not on his former opinion, but his rage against the Anon group).
You are correct in every single way. Anonymus is mostly wasting its power.derelix said:Fine maybe some members have genuine morals but it doesn't change the fact that this attack is nothing but a childish attack.Isaac The Grape said:Lets start from the beginning. I am Anonymus. I have never passed a membership test because all one needs to do to become Anonymus (or a member of the group known as Anonymus, it all depends on your interpretation) is to declare themselves Anonymus (or an "anon" if you follow the group philosophy). Anonymus has no set reason to exist. This does not mean that Anonymus has no reason to exist. On the contrary, that reason to exist can be anything. My own interpretation of Anonymus (one that is dieing out as "the cancer" spreads) is that on a persona. We are Anonymus. Many take the same identity in-order to act as one. Anonymus is not an entity by it self as it is sometimes made out to be. Anonymus is a vehicle for ideas and movements. It is around these ideas that Anonymus builds it existence on. Let me explain. This thread is about Gene Simmons, a man known for his aggressive stance on file sharing. Last month Anonymus began participating in something called "Operation Payback" this I am sure you are aware of and I will not go into its details here. The origin of Operation Payback is knowledge I do not have at hand. Its however origin is irrelevant in this case as all that matters was that Anonymus decided to take part. A call was sent out to anyone that was listening advising the users of the internet about this. Many responded and took up the mantle of Anonymus. I for one did not take part in any of the attacks that have taken place as of yet but this does not mean I do not wish to take part. Why you ask? Why do I wish to DoS websites? Because. Just because. I agree with the ideals of Operation Payback. All we may be doing is throwing small pebbles, nay, handfuls of dirt at a great castle. But it is the spirit in which we through these handfuls of dirt that is important to me. I'm not a martyr for some cause here. I just one of many people who together wished to voice their opinions. And that is why I am Anonymus. We are at it loosest from, a community. One who's numbers shift and flow like mountains of sand. We have no core values and ideals save the notion of working together as one. But yet as individuals. As for why we do what we do? How would I know! Depends on whatever Anonymus is doing. Sometimes Anonymus wants to organize birthdays for WWII veterans, sometimes it wants to close pools. There is but one thing that is common through all of Anonymus though. Give us a reason to and we will do it. People have tried to to everything from free hugs campaigns for autistic children to the ordering of millions of pizzas for someone ("the cancer" means that the latter is most common). As for myself Anonymus I tend to support political efforts or the occasional humanitarian movement. I am human after all. And I get a lot of flak from Anonymus for that.derelix said:You? Like I said, are you even a part of that group or are you just latching on?Isaac The Grape said:Well if you want a proper answer then please, ask away. I just want to know why you hate me?derelix said:I've heard all the troll comments before. It's sad that none of you people can state a simple case, you have to resort to childish insults and attacks.Isaac The Grape said:Someone a bit butt hurt by us?
I hate any group that has to attack somebody because they decided to say something that is disagreed with. I disagree with him, but I don't feel the need to attack people based on their beliefs.
I hate you because you are incapable of explaining why you do the things you do. You just repeat the standard troll catchphrases when somebody challenges your beliefs.
So why do you support this group? Can you answer with anything other than a lame joke? I mean an original joke is at least amusing but a troll can't even produce that. It's just the same boring one liners, like an annoying video game character.

One of the few left who is even more pretentious then me. We are mostly referred to as "Moralfags".
If your group was really so courageous, why not attack the groups actually stopping file sharing? Why attack a guy who simply agrees with it?
It's a publicity stunt, plain and simple. It solves nothing. It's sad that your "group" has this much power yet they choose to use it to harass celebrities that they disagree with.
You talk about this act as if it is some heroic thing to raise spirits but it's not. Could you imagine how great it would be if Anon didn't attack people based on their beliefs and instead on their actions? Like attacking Gene's website if he really did sue some people for file sharing (as in, personally not a company he works for) or if you actually attacked those that stop file sharing?
Why does it have to be like this? A bunch of kids throwing "pebbles" as you called it. Not at a castle housing the tyrannical ruler, but at some idiot that supports the tyrant but has a lot of gold.
It's silly. It's wasted power. It's a cancer, our defense system (the collective anonymous group) has become too numerous and is now attacking it's own system. Maybe I'm misunderstanding biology here but I'm not trying to use cancer as a word like "nazi" or "Hitler" for shock value, that's the only way I can describe it. Our white blood cells attacking the system that keeps it alive. A long painful death for the internet when the trolls are attracted to the group more than the honest "moralfags" or whatever they're called.
I would support anon if it was just doing good things or doing bad things to bad people, but this is nothing but an internet bully group right now.
No they wont. The cancer that makes up the majority of Anonymus does not care. Most of Anonymus is the definition of apathy. I'm not exaggerating in any way, go on a large chan (short for channel) sometime and read the posts.derelix said:He has a semi popular tv show, that's why he's targeted. and i believe it 100%, gene Simmons cant win, even with the FBI with him he cant stop piracy only hinder it. this makes me proud to be anonymous
"stands..." "claps" kinda made me crap with joy not gunna lie...i applaude you good sir
Yes, fuck yes, this all this, every single scrap of this, personally I think someone needs to teach these million dollar an hour making rich fucks a god damn lesson in humility. I officially like Anon in this fight.
Plus, like other people have said, anon is all over the world. Wake up Gene Simmons, the FBI does not have jurisdiction over the entire world! You know how difficult it is to trial someone from another country, especially if that country doesn't have an organisation like MPAA or whatever it's called? There are plenty of countries that don't even have proper antipiracy laws. So you can't possibly take out all the anons. Sure, maybe you could catch some in the US. But the rest will remain. And, even if they would all be caught, it would still not stop piracy.
It's the record companies that are the money grubbers here, I wish Gene would realize that but I wouldn't attack him for being ignorant.
Your attacking the guy who has nothing to do with the real problem. If anon is so big and bad, why are they picking on him and not the RIAA? I mean I haven't heard about them getting hacked, maybe anon is too scared to go after anything except an easy target.
Quote fight club all you want, at least Tyler Dudren wasn't beating up celebrities because they disagreed with him. These guys are not revolutionaries, they're cowards.
You seem to be defending this group simply because you disagree with Gene. He is not the head of the FBI, he is not running the RIAA, why does he need to be shut up?
Why is he not allowed to spread his ignorant opinion like anon and every other person online is? Because he didn't hide behind a screen name?
But ok, I'll play ball. So anon has never made any threats?
Anybody that says anything that can be interpreted as a threat has to be attacked now? Your justifying an irrational act. There is no reason to do this, nothing is gained. It's simply a childish expression of anger. It's like if a kid's mom tells him he needs to get off the phone and go to bed and he stays on but his brother tells him he should listen to mommy, then the kid hits the brother.
RIAA and these other anti pirating groups try to stop us from letting information flow freely. Gene agrees with them, and he's the easier target. We attacked gene.
Do you not see the problem with this logic? If these guys were really fighting for freedom on the internet, they would be attacking RIAA for suppressing it.
You said it yourself, Gene doesn't have that power. Why does he need to be attacked?
That sounds like a threat to me. Perhaps i am misinterpreting it though.
If so, can you tell me what he said to justify a personal attack on him?
I mean quoting what he said after his website was attacked is really bias. That's like keying a guys car (another act considered "rebellious" by another annoying group, except that one likes to paint up as clowns) and then justifying it by the threats he made to you after you did this.
Even if he did threaten to sue them, why does this justify an attack?
What we say is nothing. Everyone has the right to let stupid things slip. The only reason he is paying for this is because he's a figure that the media takes interest in.
I really hate to quote the deep talking batman, but....don't make me say it please....It's not what we say, but our actions that define us.
So Gene gets attacked for saying something while the RIAA is just fine even though they actually do much worse than what gene has done.
"Make sure your brand is protected, be litigious, sue anybody - take their homes, their cars, don't let anybody cross that line," he said at the time. "The music industry was asleep at the wheel and didn't have the balls to go and sue every fresh-faced, freckle-faced college kid who downloaded a clip, so now we're left with hundreds of people without jobs."
This is what he said before his site was attacked, aparently.
And, as far as i can understand from the article, those organizations like the RIAA have been targeted too. I don't know that much about this whole thing, so as to determin if what they did to Simmons is worse then what they did to the RIAA or the other groups.
And i don't agree that what we say is nothing. I do believe sometimes people take what is said to heart too much, but that is the world we live in. You really can suffer for your own words, not just for your actions.
ALso, i don't really know that much about batman, to know what's with that quote.![]()
Yes people are attacked for what they say, but they shouldn't be.
Yes it could sound like a threat if you want it too, it could also sound like the angry rants of a man that doesn't know what group is fucking him over. He's ignorant, educate him then. Don't attack him.
I'm sure a few hackers have tried attacking the RIAA but why doesn't anon invest all of it's resources in this? Wouldn't all of them agree on this cause?
Of course not, because attacking some barely famous celebrity gets you more publicity and it's safer.
And, again, anon does attack the big organizations as well. But i'm not sure they can "invest all of it's resources", because they are a group of random people. It's hard to get everyone on bord. It's not like they're an organization or anything like that. It's hard to organize everyone that's part of that group.
I don't know if they'll get more publicity out of this than out of attacking the RIAA or MPAA... Gene Simmons is not as big a star as he used to be in his younger days. He is still famous, granted.
I didn't say we need to force him to believe as we believe, that's just insane. Why do you not understand it, you can educate the man by telling him the truth. If he doesn't choose to agree, so what? Let him disagree!
This whole thing is pathetic. People need to stop associating this group of assholes with "anarchy" and "freedom" because they are just thugs. They are no more for freedom than a group of thugs that harass the owner of a store because he said something the thugs disagree with.
I really wish the internet wasn't being hijacked by idiots that attack people for speaking their mind, and I really wish idiots here were not defending them. Still I wouldn't hack anyone's computer or harass anyone here simply because I disagree with them. Anon does apparently.
One day the idiots here making mythology out of rabid internet dogs will realize what they were apart of and be ashamed of themselves. I kind of change my mind about one thing though, I hope the group stays. I hope this cancer spreads everywhere and destroys internet freedom completely. Then they can be forced to enjoy a hollow shell of something that was once great. Then maybe we will be forced into the real world instead of living our lives on this idiot box connected to millions of other idiot boxes.

These people live apart from you, in another world. Or at least take on the persona of doing so when in the typical chan environment. Anonymus and the *chans are related in the way that identical twins are related. They have developed into different people but they started out almost indistinguishable from each other.
A chan can be many things. But due to the reputation of 4chan's famous /b/ board, which many people substitute for 4chan as a whole, there is this perception that all chans must be to some extent pits of hate and the domain of the sort of people that will attack someone because they feel like it. Whenever I'm on one of these places sometimes I feel I could be looking at the posts of the next Colombine killers. Thankfully most of it is an act so you can "fit in", but a man's actions reveal the intentions of his heart. And the intentions of the heart can be changed by a man's actions. I not sure if you'll ever understand the chan world or the lifestyle that goes with as you'll may not ever try it. But it is something that no amount of raging against it will change. You may have been yelling at Anonymus, but what you're really angry at is the chans.
They're not going after Gene Simmons because they don't like his music, they're going after him because he tried to mess with their way of life. He wants to crack down on piracy (nothing wrong with that persay) and the internets biggest pirates had something to say about that. It would be like cracking down on laws, and then getting angry and pissed off when Captain Jack Sparrow shows up with the black pearl. What the heck did you expect to happen? Everyone goes 'okay Gene, because you said so, we will stop pirating your music. NEVERMIND we're actually listening to it because some of us like your stuff, no, you just care about money. It's just gene now, it's just the crazy cult members before, but who do you think they're going to attack next?
It's just the internet, but it was supposed to be a place where we can exchange opinions and information freely. This is a group that is clearly against opposing opinions to the point where they attack those that say something they disagree with.
Do more with actual protests against the RIAA? You can't be serious in thinking that will accomplish a damn thing. Since when has it ever?derelix said:Right, corrupted because he disagrees with these internet thugs.
You educate somebody by not attacking them. Send him mail explaining your view. It probably won't work, but neither will acting like a dick to get rid of some frustration.
This whole thing is just idiotic. People making a childish act out to be some kind of heroic gesture. Our entire species needs to be sterilized and this is living proof of it.
This isn't a war, it's just pointless. These people could do more with actual protests against the RIAA than with these idiotic internet attacks. It doesn't matter anyways, it's all a joke.
Anon is just another internet group of trolls, kids, and wannabe world changers. They don't do much besides publicity stunts and childish attacks on people that disagree with their views. If you really want to make this out to be something more, good for you. I guess we all need our delusions.
This whole species should just take a cyanide pill. Every day I have to listen to idiots quoting fight club while referring to a group of pathetic dorks with nothing better to do than harass aging rock stars, I get a little more violent to this whole pathetic species.
Anon is living proof of our spoiled, childish, internet obsessed culture. I hope the whole thing shuts down, and the internet, and all electronics. Then spoiled little brats like them will be forced to live and (most likely) die quickly in the real world.
Yes, I do buy that crap, it's knowledge gained from a real-world scenario. You want real world, just look at the amount of musical talent on the West Coast, that could outdo all those idiots that get record deals in terms of quality of music. Squashed by recording giants that just want to rip them off, so they can give all the money to playing the same hip-hop or pop tune on the radio 8,000 times a day, brainwashing every young teenager into what's worth buying and what isn't. Real world scenarios, yes, and why are you so rooted in this? The retaliations are real world! Who is acting like a spoiled brat here? The record companies are being greedy fat kids, and the 'spoiled brat' are the parents taking away the cake. And it's not 'harmless attacks on those that disagree with us', it's 'hitting home attacks with people who are ripping off the masses of intellectual remuneration and the right to do with what you paid for'derelix said:Wow, yes since when have protests or doing something in the REAL WORLD ever changed anything? Only web based attacks change the world.JohnnyDelRay said:Do more with actual protests against the RIAA?
Despite all the raging back and forth on this issue, the world STILL 'knows' that 'piracy is costing the music industry fortunes', and they STILL don't know that artists are getting ripped off, getting their 20 cents for each CD that sells for $30. They also don't realize that copyright law is in fact being manipulated to make the music industries more money, instead of protecting the artists' interests. Gene falls into the same pool as Lars Ulrich, in thinking that 'people will be out of jobs' because of this. Real musicians are out of jobs because pop stars are the only ones that get any sort of funding and airplay!! It's the cheapest business model, plough all money into ONE SINGLE artist rather than 5,000, make 'em godlike in popularity, and reap the cash. And the same sh!t still goes on year after year after year. Want proof? Turn on the radio. It's not even Top 40 anymore, it's Top 10.
People just don't do anything about anything. Sonys DRM debacle? How did they end up paying for that? Some measly sum of cash given to each person who's computer is crippled, plus a non-root-kitted cd? Everyone who deserves a serious takedown gets a clipping round the ear, and keeps on doing whatever they're doing. Apple, Microsoft, Creative, Ubisoft, the list goes on and on. It's about time someone actually did something *other* than useless protests, immature or not.
Gawd just look at history, nothing ever happened before the internet.
Civil rights only happened because white supremacists had their blogs shut down by hackers, everyone knows that.
I can't believe you buy that crap. You've been trained, you think you can't change the world by actually doing something in the real world. Sad.
The reason most people don't KNOW these things is because it's only discussed fully online. If people organized real protests, media coverage would follow. With a good leader for a real group, the real message could get out. That's how you educate people, not by attacking some old rock star because he doesn't like pirates.
You think everyone knows because you spend so much time online, but most really don't know what's going on with the music industry. Most just see pirating as stealing, talk to real people (not people online) and you will see what I mean.
Your right, we should do something, but acting like spoiled brats won't solve everything. You need to see both sides of the issue. If you can get game designers on your side (many are) then your in. Of course you won't do that for the same reason I won't and nobody else will, we're useless and we have been trained to do nothing except harmless attacks on those that disagree with us.
Sad isn't it?
I forgot to iterate that my statements were based on talking to many people on the issue of music piracy, (i seem to have to justify it to a lot of people why I don't buy cd's) not from 'being online all the time'. And this is a crazy pretense anyways. Talking to people on the internet aren't real people or what? People still don't know how ripped off musicians are, go outside and ask ANYBODY. The real world AND the 'on-line' world are uninformed - they think being a rockstar is great, it's easy, and look at the successful ones, and don't realize that many musicians who work just as hard if not many times harder are still starving. And that it doesn't need to be this way. If the record companies stood up, and embraced something that is not decades old, the world could share music and help all of those.derelix said:I can't believe you buy that crap. Yes, I did go off a bit on my own tangent, sorry about that. Gene's words are not harming me, but they do a fair bit to plunge the public into more ignorance, and further the ploy of the recording industries. For the sake of the public, and the future of the music industry, I am a little worried. A severe dropping off of creativity and innovative bands seems to spear the music of today, but this could be construed as my own opinion, so I'll leave it there. I guess I would just like to see artists treated more fairly, and although I don't really condone a DDoS attack as an appropriate retaliation, it seems that not much else works these days because of monopoly, or a giant that's too big to bring down and no one dares to question.derelix said:I can't describe how much you are missing the point.
Gene simmons is not the one taking peoples money here. I never said I agreed with what the record companies do, maybe you should pay attention.
You said real world protests do less than silly web based attacks, they do not.
These attacks are not "hitting home" they are hitting the guy next door who happens to agree with the "home"
See what I'm saying here? Attacking gene is pointless and childish. You ask who is acting like the spoiled brats here? The people attacking gene and the record companies.
Happy? Of course not, because you have to defend what these idiots are doing for some reason that you have yet to explain other than implying that Gene's comments are somehow harming you. They are not, they are just words.
The attacks against gene are pointless, how can you not understand this?
They already do. Anonymus is not the "Final Boss of the Internet". It's a tool. One that can be used. It can be used as a private army if you give them a suitable target.derelix said:If raptor Jesus was trully the son of raptor god, why would he allow himself to die in such a way?Isaac The Grape said:You are correct in every single way.

Operation Payback has been targeting people actually stopping file sharing, you can find the records as the stand so far here:http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Operation_Payback.
Incidentally the main website coordinating the attacks is here:http://tieve.tk/. Note that they do not mention any attacks on Gene Simmons.
That is all I have to say.
Apart from that I apologize for the rushed nature of my above post.
And that Raptor Jesus died for your sins.
And I suppose I did rush my opinion of the group, but I stand by my statement that the anon members doing the attack on gene simmons are far in the wrong. If this continues, it can have a huge negative effect for all of us because it won't stop with gene. As this group of intolerant internet jocks grows (and eventually takes over your group) they can start to silence any website or blog that says anything negative about them or their beliefs.
I would like to point out that those who are called "the cancer" deny the existence of "the cancer". I am thankful that I tend to distance myself from both of these people.derelix said:Nice, now the void really wants me to join. Probably won't (don't know anything about hacking, yet) but it's scary.Isaac The Grape said:Another Quote from the same source.
"Message to New Anon From Old Anon
Typical tl;dr by an Oldfag, AKA Veteran basement dweller, who for some insipid reason feels a sense of elitism about his place in the ocean of piss. Note the hypocrisy in attempting to identify something that is by definition unidentified.
People these days seem to think we are some sort of Internet vigilante group, That couldn't be further from the truth. We are the little voice in the back of your head that wants to fuck your hot sixteen year old daughter. We are the father who beats his six year old child simply because he spilled his beer. We are every chef that's ever spit in some random person's food for the hell of it. We are the pyromaniac who burns down the homeless shelter for shits and giggles. We are the person who rapes the same girl twice. We are that feeling you get when you beat your pets; and enjoy it. We see some guy hang himself live, we laugh. A wrestler kills his family, we laugh. Some maladjusted Asian shoots up his university, we laugh. Fifty-thousand die in North Korea, we laugh. AIDS ravages a continent, we laugh. An Austrian man locks his daughter in his basement for 24 years and fathers 8 children with her, we laugh. A religion invented by a psychotic writer swindles countless gullible fucktards out of their cash, we laugh, and then go kick his religion's ass just for the hell of it. We aren't some vigilante group righting wrongs. We aren't your friends, your buddies or your saviors. Your feelings mean nothing to us. We are human nature unencumbered by pointless ethics, foolish moralities or arbitrary laws and restrictions. We are every dark impulse you have; unrestrained and fully realized. We are what deep down, you wish you were. We exist as a means for instant gratification, purely at our own whim. We have no culture, we have no laws, written or otherwise. We are an autonomous collective, each an insignificant part of a whole. You cannot assimilate us, we do not change. You cannot defeat us, we do not exist. You cannot infiltrate us, we know our own. We do not sleep, we do not eat and we do not feel remorse. We will tear you apart from outside and in, we have all the time in the world. You operate under the delusion that we will someday be outdated, that we might even see the light. You are irrevocably wrong. You are not special, you are not unique and you aren't crusaders for justice. You're a blend of college age faggots who think that they can do some sort of good, and who are desperate to belong, to have attention. You have accomplished nothing, and you will fall. Enjoy your AIDS, faggots.
But God help you if you fuck with a cat."

I would like to point out that there are many people who would sympathise with this guy. These are the people who uphold that the cancer is spreading. The person who, in compliance with AE law(Encyclopedia Dramatica), edited this article so that it was condescending in every possible way are themselves hypocritical in saying that the writer of the rant is elitist. The average channer is fine with putting down someone but if you raze someone up then someone will have to bring them down. "Everyone is fair game except for me". Yes, there are very few people who are willing to buck the trend and actually be intelligent in the chan world.
You may want to take note that Encyclopedia Dramatica is the closest you will get to quantifying the current Anonymus.
It makes sense, given anonymity most of us become sociopaths. I use to say animals, but that's not it. Animals torture and kill for no reason, sure, but they don't torture somebody psychologically and skillfully with such joy.
I admit, in my trolling days, I am quite guilty of that myself.
