Will Ferrell allegedly playing Inspector Gadget in Disney film

Now I'm a genre film whore. My galactic dislike of Will Ferrell means I'd only wait until I can use Disney+ to watch this rather than a cinema trip. But as I was reading some other commentary on this, I thought of a way to have a bit of fun with this that don't involve my fantasies of launching Will Ferrell into space by catapult.

One of the big things with Inspector Gadget is Penny and Brain's double act. Without them, Gadget would be dead ten times over per episode. But its a cartoon; so a dog talking, gesturing, using tools and walking like a person in disguise goes unacknowledged as weird. So I thought, what if Brain was in fact the result of some literal MAD science? Like an evil Bolt that Dr. Claw has attempted to create but is in fact rescued by Penny? Hence his loyalty and tolerance of Gadget's bullshit.
Funy how I was just thinking about Inspector Gadget recently. Specifically, an Inspector Gadget vs Dyno-Mutt matchup for Death Battle. :)

What do you have against him?
Will Farell pretty much plays the same loud man child character after Elf. Hollywood was putting him in so many movies during the mid and late 2000s, and some of the 2010s. I would go out of my way not to see anything he was in by 2008.

As a person? Nothing, I don't know the man. As a comedy actor? His characters are loud, screechy man-children in permanent states of arrested development and every time they open their mouths I want to stick the largest firearm I can hold into their maw and empty the magazine. And before you mention Anchorman, that one doesn't work for me for two reasons: one, I have no frame of reference for the era, personalities and professions its satirising, and two, everyone in that movie is colossal asswipe and without some distance I can't vibe with that.

I have not seen Anchorman. Looking through his filmography, I have only seen the two LEGO movies, Stranger then Fiction, Megamind (in parts), neither of which I think that description holds much water. I assume you are correct about his other movies.

Once Elf made it big, he really did fall into the man-child stereotype heavy, and I'm someone who doesn't necessarily mind that. I enjoyed both Anchorman movies, Talladega Nights, and Elf, but I will also say that when he is in that mode, he REALLY needs a good straight man to make it tolerable, and he doesn't always get that.

The one good thing about Lynch getting his ticket punched is I never have to find out he partnered with a generative AI startup.

Rather bemusiing to see all these high profile directors so eager to take a big fat dump all over the craft of everyone they ever worked with.

But sure, Marty, if it's so creatively freeing, how about a bet? Make a movie. Just you and genAI. See what comes out the other side.

Ehh, a part of me thinks the mere mention of AI being a death knell to civilization is a bit much. Guessing the same thing happened when calculators were invented. What will happen to the mathematicians? Still around.

Or worse yet, computers *shudders* what will happen to everything that was done by typewriters, or by hand‽

Tech advances regardless, new tools are created, creating new types of jobs nobody’s ever heard of before. The point is in properly leveraging it all, which admittedly can be a contentious endeavor remaining to be seen in this latest case.

AI can't replace art, and still doesn't excuse these fat cat execs forcing it down people's throats, wasting money, and polluting our planet. AI has its uses, but not in the entertainment industry, and sure as hell can never replace human beings. No matter how much the rich fuck heads keep imaging it will and can't deal with reality.

What little respect I had for him died. Fuck you Martin.
