...And why people refuse to use them D=<

Seriously, there are few things I hate more than when I go out of my way to avoid spoilers for something, only to then read/hear/see a spoiler for something. I could understand how it would be my fault if I stumbled upon a spoiler whilst reading a topic about the game/film/book, but so often it seems to happen in topics that don't have anything to do with the spoiler I'm trying to avoid! What's even worse is when someone considerately uses a spoiler tag, but then someone quotes that person talking about what is within that spoiler tag!

I'm going to surprise a few of you here and say that the spoilers that I have stumbled upon are not actually to do with TDKR. Spoiler dodging successful in that department! Rather they're to do with Arkham City. After just coming back from seeing TDKR my love for batman got reignited and I felt like buying Arkham City, which I never got round to doing. However I'm hesitant because someone rather inconsiderately spoiled what I would imagine is the great big plot twist of the game in a completely irrelevant thread! I'm still probably going to buy the game mind you, but it's going to be a pain in the ass playing the game when I know what's going to happen. Bah!

I'm ranting, so to turn this into a discussion, have you ever had something spoiled for you? You're fault? Someone else's fault? Were you bothered?

By the way let's not turn this thread ironic and end up spoiling everything for everyone by not using spoiler tags in a thread about spoiler tags.

If it's a recent game not everyone has gotten the chance to play, yeah people should probably use spoiler tags.

Old game (over 2 years) is fair game.
If you don't know Yuna is forced into a marriage with Seymour or that Aerith dies,
you chose not to play those games.

Well, in my opinion...

Darn it, I can't have any fun.

It is pretty disappointing having things spoiled. Even if the OP asks people to use spoiler tags, I still avoid threads about a game I haven't played or a movie I haven't seen. Ya just never know with the Internet, maaaaaan.

Well, apart from people who legitimately don't know how to use the spoiler tags, I don't usually see people here who don't specify that they're going to spoil something before they do it.

Also, if a game is a year old or more, I really don't care anymore.

Of course, I don't particularly care about spoilers in the first place. Dark Knight Rises is pretty much the first thing I've been trying to avoid spoilers for in months.

I have the ability to forget stuff spoiled for me, so I can be told all you like and it won't make a difference.

I just don't jump into threads or reviews about stuff I haven't experienced myself. For an example see all the Mass Effect 3 threads.
