General use laptop suggestions.

I'm thinking if buying a laptop soon, one that I plan to use for the word processor and general web-surfing, and would like some suggestions for decent quality, dependable brands that aren't too expensive, preferably under $400. Can anyone given me some suggestions?
This will be a general use computer, so I don't need a super strong video or audio card, or an insane amount of memory ( I can easily get extra flash drives for the memory).

Sounds like you want a netbook, not a laptop.

Do netbooks have a cd/dvd drive? Because I might want to watch some non-downloaded movies on it or put my itunes library on it.

Or you can get the cheaper model EeePC and grab an external DVD drive. But ya if your not looking for power a Netbook is probably the way to go. Or a refurbished older laptop to keep costs down even farther.
