Today it's my birthday (as I may have mentioned once or twice), and strangely enough there are a couple of people on here who also have birthdays today, but they're a year or two younger than me.

As I turn 19 today, I have just finished my first year of being an adult in the UK, and having all the responsibility that entails. So I just want to say something to all those who are approaching those big birthdays, where you suddenly become an adult in your own right.

Being an adult isn't as great as it seems when you're still underage. Yeah, for the first few days you think, now I can drink/smoke/have sex etc, but after a month or two, you start noticing the little things. Now you have to sign all the forms. Now you have to take full responsibility for everything you do. Now all the big decisions are solely down to you.

So enjoy being a kid for as long as possible. Don't concentrate solely on I'll be able to drink soon, or whatever. You'll regret it if you do. Cos once you become an adult, it all changes, and you can't change back.

Okay, a bit long and deep there. So does anyone agree who is already an adult? Anything you want to add? And is there anything the teens want to say in return?

Okay, there's a down side, but now when I have sleepovers the company is drastically different.

Everything is a mixed bag, like the serenity of solitude versus the agony of loneliness.

I definitely felt what you're talking about, but I just love freedom.

I did have that feeling, where in youth adulthood looks great. You think you'll feel good and life will be great, and you come to find out it's just... not.

But was childhood really better?

I can't say I'm looking forward to adulthood. Forms and taxes and finances and all that crap is really daunting. But having my own house, is what I'm looking forward to. (I hate alcohol, am a compulsive and anti-social gamer and think smoking is for retards)

Happy birthday. Adulthood is a bit of an interesting thing; I don't particularly miss my childhood. Sure, given the chance to do it over I would - assuming I kept my knowledge of the world as it is now - but dwelling on the way it used to be seems to be a mite pointless.

Personally, I may be living in a different city from my family, but I'm still basically on their tab. I'm very much looking forward to when I can stop being a student and really earn my place on the world. All the legal stuff is somewhat intimidating, sure, but it's hardly impossible to deal with.

I don't see the advantage of being an adult, responsibility should be avoided for as long as possible. When I get drunk I don't have to worry, people are always there to sober me up and help me out after getting me to do things I wouldn't if I wasn't drunk.Although I don't usually get drunk because of my high alcohol tolerance.
