So I just picked up a Sega Genesis with a few games:

- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Alex Kidd and the Enchanted Castle
- Zero Tolerance
- Columns
- Lost Vikings

What other games do you guys think I should seek out? I bought a GEN for a friend a while ago with T2: The Arcade Game, all four Sonics, MK3, and The Lion King so I might be able to borrow a few games from her, beyond picking up new ones - I'm trying to build a collection.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles is awesome, of course.
Another game I really enjoyed back in those days was James Pond 3: Operation Starfish. It's kind of like the Megadrive, sorry, Genesis version of Super Mario World. Wonderful game.

Lost Vikings is top of the line, one of my favorite games of all time, good choice!

OK, I'd recommend, if you can find it, Landstalker, a zelda-esque style isometric adventure game which was one of my favorites. Also check out the X-Men game, especially if you have a friend, that one was hard but satisfying.

Hmm... Earthworm Jim is a classic, and I was always fond of Vectorman but I don't have it so I can't compare.

If you want a racing type game I would recommend the Road Rash series, I remember having a ton of fun with those.

Last suggestion would have to be Toe Jam and Earl 2. So so bizarre.

Comix Zone, Vectorman, Sonic 2 and 3, TMNT: Hyperstone Heist, X-men 2, ToeJam and Earl 1.

Yeah, that's my list. Definitely check out the first two I listed, those should be way more known than they are, they're both awesome games.

Vectorman series, Streets of Rage series, Bio-Hazard Battle, Warsong, Toejam and Earl 2: Panic on Funkotron...

I'd have to say, I miss my Sega Genesis more than my NES or SNES... Though some more good games for any of the three on Virtual Console would be groovy.

Can't believe I'll be the first with one of these: Genesis 50:9.

But seriously, Earthworm Jim and The Lost Vikings are good. Vectorman was good, but not my cup of tea.

Blockbuster titles like Super Metroid or Final Fantasy VI aside (or Super Mario World or ALttP or Chrono Trigger) I actually find pawing around random GEN titles more fulfilling than doing it with SNES ones. There's alot of good, arcade-style stuff in the Sega tradition.

If you like Lost Vikings there is a sequel. I'm not sure what its called on the Genesis, it may be LV2 but it may be under the title of Norse by Norsewest. Also Golden Axe.

I can't believe no ones mentioned this!

Beyond Oasis

Awesome game. It's like Zelda and Prince of Persia had a love child. That was raised by Street Fighter. You play as an adventerous young prince who, while on an explorative archaological dig, discover an ancient gauntlet with an eye in it. Predictably it fuses to your hand. You return home to find your home in Chaos with monsters everywhere, and using your gauntlets power to summon elementals (to attack, boost you, heal you, etc etc) and cast the occasional elemental spell (mostly for environmental puzzle solving). Though the game is fairly linear there's a degree of exploration in it, with treasure and weapons to be found - they degrade with each hit though, and certain weapons work better on certain creatures. Fortunatly you can stockpile them on your menu screen and equip them as needed. The combat system is great, though when you use a weapon it's usually the old one two (or just ONE) swing, when it's just your prince and his dagger you can do all kids of crazy shit like slides, crescent kicks, chunli kicks, throws, etc. The combat is very satisfying and intuitive. If the game has a problem I think it's narrative falls apart once you get the fire elemental and it can be very confusing figuring out where to go or what to do. And it also gets very hard towards the middle/end. They just never polished the story well, and with the difficulty and the saving system... well, it dissolved into a cult classic.

This gets a double recommendation from me. The first RPG I've ever played. Plenty of fun too.

Also look for Streets of Rage as someone said, but avoid the 3rd one. First or second are great.

The Beavis and Butthead game is pretty fun/funny.
You can also look for Lethal Enforcers if you're into rail shooters.
