Havent we all wanted to simply 'make someone', someone we can trust fully, act as our best friend or loyal minion, if YOU were given the chance to genetically engineer someone/thing to any detail, what would it be, I'm quite interested in the reposes

The only genetic engineering I would ever like to see would be to cure horrible diseases such as cystic fibrosis, Huntington's disease, Fragile X syndrome, X-linked agammaglobulinemia, Retinoblastoma, achondroplasia, Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease and so on, because these deletorious traits cause so much suffering amongst people who are unfortunate enough to have them, any other reason to have genetic engineering would be selfish if we didn't put our powers towards curing diseases like these.

I personally don't like genetic engineering when it comes to tampering directly with a living organisms chromosomes. I am not talking about mating hybrids, but stuff like mixing scorpion DNA with wheat DNA. I think that nature has had a lot more practice than humans have, and should really be allowed to have the final say in the matter of what species is made out of what materials.

Or my ex-wife. Ohhhhh snap!

*cough* Anyway, swiftly back on topic; I think we should use genetic engineering to cure painful diseases but I am not a biology expert so I wouldn't know if it's possible

Um, Genetic Engineering doesn't give you the ability to alter personality or influence thoughts, just so you know. You can make a custom human (by a long shot) but your influence is limited to physical traits not mental, your creation can turn out to be a complete backstabbing, unfaithful, cowardly, arsebiscuit. There is no gene or protein that codes for trust, friendship or loyalty so you cannot know with certainty what kind of a person you'll end up creating.

Also, you described a dog there!.

Genetic engineering would NOT help you there. Personality traits, such as loyalty, are at least partly due to environmental factors. I suppose you could genetically engineer someone, and then spend years conditioning them to be a completely loyal, perfect friend. But as others have mentioned, getting a dog would be much easier.

Sounds like someone got hurt. I don't think everyone necessarily wants that. I prefer friends who are slightly unpredictable and challenge me rather than staying in my comfort zones.

Im fine with geneticlly modifiying plants. Getting genes from one organism that prduces vitamin A in large amount and inserting it into a grain in order to combat malnutirtion in developing countires is ok in my book.

However genetically modifying snakes or other cold preditors to increase there intellegance seems a tad bit dangerous (see deep blue sea). Animals are a whole different issue, becuase they can can feel and express pain and are capable of acting menevolently.

Even those "ok" crops are capable of hurting people. GM food can cause cancer and such, if the only test ever allowed on GM food is to be believed.

I wouldn't because it can be considered perverse.

But, without consequence, I guess I would make a personn... Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger...

(I apologise for the reference. Hit me now)

A pet velociraptor. They were a lot smaller in reality than Jurassic Park made them look.

EDIT:

Perfect pet size.

Clonable livestock with no (or very malformed) brains. Clone them and eat them. It'd be a lot better than just traditionally farming them.

The problem with GMO foods is that they create versions of foods that can end up causing health issues down the road. Just look at the Frankenstein bullshit that Monsanto (one of the most diabolical corporations on the planet) produce! They are now pumping out what they call "terminator" seeds. A seed that will only reproduce once. Forcing farmers to re-buy seeds from them again and again. The worst part about this is that if these plants mix with the plants out in nature, they can carry this new genetic material out into the real world. Fucking evil bastards they are, they need to be burnt to the ground.

Fuck GMO foods, I'll take a heritage food above any GMO.

If I had the technology, the first thing I'd do, is add demon wings to my own body, then I'll start thinking about my minions, I'd probably make them something like the minions in Overlord, or Orks (/Uruk Hai) in LOTR, and some trolls and those things of fire and darkness whose name I just forgot. Anyways I'd never be happy with just one, if I can have an infinite army of them.
(If it's limited to one it'd be something entirely different.)
