Genre combination?

Alright, so there have been some games that have blended two (or more) genres, or whatever you call them, here is a very brief list of examples:

Borderlands: FPS, RPG. (omg)

Spyhunter: Nowhere to run: TPS, Combat driving sim...or something...

Mass Effect:RPG with shooting elements/TPS. (Edited, thanks for the correction)

Now there are a lot of genres, and some sub-classes might come down to a subjective opinion, for example a sandbox game isn't one of the staple genres (FPS, RPG, TPS, RTS, MMO etc..) but it could easily be considered a genre for gaming.

Now I want to know what the people of the Escapist think the best blend of genres would be to make the ultimate structure of a game, personally I would like to see a game that encompasses the elements of an RTS, with an omnipotent player issuing orders to player-controled units who can take the role of tank commander, infantry, fighter pilot etc...

I know this premise would require more processing power than Crysis on max settings multiplied by a very large number, but this is a theoretical sort of thing, and feel free to blend as many genres into your idea as you wish, as long as there is a point to it, and also if you're feeling bold, add a theme to the game! (i.e Horror, sci-fi etc.)

Just for shits and giggles I'd like to see somebody try to make a RTS/RPG. Man, what a pain in the ass that would be.

RTS and FPS. I would love a game where I could build massive armies and then zoom right in and control a single foot soldier with masses of tanks and such around me. It would be awesome. I think a sci-fi theme would be best, so you could be facing massive aliens and futuristic tech.

That's sort of what I was going for, like putting human controls to the units of say, Command and conquer 3/Kanes wrath.

How awesome would it be to be able to drive around in this thing?

Actually, how about this.

Turn-based Strategy game on the scale of say, interstellar conquest using massive capital ships and whatnot (like Homeworld). Then you switch to sand-box style planetary exploration/resource gathering (Mass Effect 1's Mako exploring, but better). Large-scale combats in "space mode" could be run as an RTS (like SupCom). Small-scale space combats could be handled as a real time first-person flight sim (Like the old Wing Commander games). Large- scale planet-side comflict could be handled via Squad-based Mecha combat in real time with turn-based logistics(sorta like MechWarrior or Armored Core). Small-scale planet side conflict could be individual or squad-based FPS/TPS action (al-a Halo/GoW or even Dawn of War 2).

For kicks you could throw in solo-player Stealth/Infiltration/Assassination missions in the vien of Assassin's Creed or Splinter Cell. Then throw in some kind of Tech research option to get bigger and badder weapons/ships/mecha just for an RPG feel.

That's a lot to handle.

That's a huge bill, but it seems like it would be solid in gameplay, and wouldn't require more than one human to play, and for the record, I love the Mech assault and Armored Core series.

The whole idea of this could be like the conquest mode from Mech assault 2, but with an expansion, handling more than planet side conflict, and having multiple factions with the online community working as either dedicated soldiers to a faction, or possibly as guns for hire to the highest bidding government? And even if you wish to be adventerous you could make it so humans have control over the government, i.e electing a real player as the president or more accurately whoever is the best player and he can allocate funds, hire mercs, give objectives and well...you get the idea.

Everything involving shooting is not a FPS. ME is 3rd person.

Maybe RPG/RTS? I see it as a very possible combo and I've even heard of some, but haven't really been too interested.

Or a massive spaceship simulator, where players would have to take different places in the crew to keep the ship moving. That would be epic.

This sounds really good, I love the Armored core series for the record. x3

I also think that to expand on what you said, there could be a massive online mode like the one from Mech assault 2 or Chromehounds, with factions etc...But as a twist, have a real player, most likely a game dev at first, be the ruler of each faction, instead of some A.I or whatever, and the player in charge, on top of taking missions, could allocate funds to make areas have more defense, or have better equipped capital ships, of better land based walkers, all in all just a massive multiplayer thing where players are the only deciding factor, I remember playing chromehounds and having all the little squads in each faction, and that could work, but alternitively there could be just one massive list of faction members, and you can invite any given person(s) to join you on any of the scale combat missions you said, and one could even go as far as to have a ranking system where you start out as one of the gunners of a capital ship, or new blood in a squad, and eventually become a shipmaster, mech commander or whatever.

*Takes a deep breath*
