I thought, gentlemen, we could have a discussion about gentlemanly attire, in my case I want to talk about Cyber Sheque but you might have another style in mind.

In particular I've been looking at ACRNYM, Arc'teryx and Cyber Dog clothing. ACRNYM is by far the best; I can't help but drool over the catalogue, almost to say "Shut up and take my money" but stopping as I look at the price tag.

But just look at this thing

If you have to take on the man in an Orwellian dystopia, this is what you would wear(There is a ladies version too on the shop). I like this stuff for many reasons; It has that over designed high culture catwalk feel but with practicality and without being obnoxious.

It's funny, about a quater of the reasons I started riding motorcycles were because the sports protective gear has that over designed feel to it as well

Cyber Dog has some nice things too at a more reasonable price.

On a more personal note, I've been looking for a new hoodie to replace my N7 hoodie that has sort of become trademarked by me. Something along these lines. Any suggestions? Any thoughts on the style? Any additional lines similar to look at? Any other recommendations?

I love the cyber biker look. It looks great on both guys and girls. But like all other trends, it's really easy to go overboard and look too costume-y. And it's easy to look outdated in it too, after all this look has been around for decades.

If you think that's expensive you don't know the half of it. Have a look at the Versace online catalogue, it's insane. They have great sleek clothing for men. You can also try eBay.

Hmm, sorry but I'm really not keen on that coat... thing. I cannot imagine anyone seriously wearing that in public. I mean it looks interesting, but it also looks like someone tried to turn a tent into a coat :-/

On the other hand, those motorbike jackets are very nice. The all black one on the far left look almost military, very smart. Does motorbike gear get really hot if you're just walking around in it? Whenever I see dismounted bikers in stuff like that I always imagine them to be roasting because their clothes look so thick. Although they look pretty awesome so I 'spose they're not bothered!

Personally I love Barbour jackets. Established brand, timeless and warm all weather coats but smart as hell, and they look just as good for town wear as for country wear (for which they are originally intended) a bit on the pricey side (£200+ for a coat) but not compared to some other brands.

I've got the one in the top 2 photos, as it's a good all round jacket. Wouldn't mind if someone bought me the others though :p

I really like Fred Perry too (yes I'm a sucker for brands). Again an established make, very British, and simple but smart. Got quite a lot of their stuff, shoes, shirts etc. but my favourite is this jacket, although mine is black. I could go on all day :p

A little bit, but that's kind of why I like it, it has a wayward vagabond kind of look to it...

In fact it very much reminds me of the Wayward Vagabond from Homestuck

... Holy shit... It IS the wayward vagabond from homestuck

Depends on what you get; I have about 5, the textile ones breath very easily and have layers you can add in to make them water resistant (I say resistant because the water proof liner goes inside the jacket and the external textile mesh absorbs water like a mother fucker. I have a thin rain coat that's big enough to go over.) and warmer in the winter.

Leather jackets are a different story.

The issue is that if you're stuck at the traffic lights for a minute it can get sweltering pretty quick no matter what you wear.

But special mention to leather boots, particularly RST Tractech boots

Cyber sheque and I have described them as vaginas for your feet. Like honestly; I wear them at home, at the office, when I'm walking around. Once the leather has broken in they are the best, most comfortable things to wear in the world; even better than ugg boots.

Reminds me of some of the old parkas you used to be able to get... I'm not one for smell memory but right now I think I can smell that weird delicious synthetic polymer blend they used in the 80's

mm, reminds me of the old bomber jackets... which I really want.

I have a thing for Noir too, most likely related to my cyberpunk fetish. What do you think of trench coats? I really want a replica of Decker's trench coat from Blade Runner, but I can't find one that meet's my standards. The material they use is to light in my opinion.

Possibly, but even the outdated stuff looks almost retro.

I have a Dririder Climate Control one and two jacket. The one I wear depends on which era I want to feel like I come from

Fuck me, that's not cheap. All the things I like are $2000. I could buy a very nice lounge suite for that (Or some really good pipes for my bike)

Re. the tent-coat; to each their own I suppose :)

Those boots look amazingly futuristic! Comfy looking, sleek and plenty of armour type bits to keep your shins nice and safe :D

And yeah, I suppose Barbour's stuff is somewhat parka-esque, but their brand image is a bit more rural. Their jackets are mainly Waxed too - they have a protective coating over the material that keeps out wind and rain, and looks lovely when it starts to get a bit worn and weathered, like so:
Nothing synthetic there though :p

The Fred Perry is what's known as a Harrington jacket. They were big in the 80's in the UK among certain sub-cultures, but they look just as good today as they did 20-30 years ago.

As far as trench coats go, Burberry do some nice ones, but that's about as far as my knowledge goes. Also depends on what kind of money you're looking to spend as they are disgustingly expensive. I agree though, with the right outfit trench coats look fantastic.

http://uk.burberry.com/store/trench-coats/mens-trench-coats/

There's a fair few there - I'm not sure if there is anything there to suit what you're looking for though. The metallic ones are insane! :p

Wooo a topic I can have some input into!

When it comes to where I buy my clothes, I'm prepared to admit I'm not the most original person. Zara, Uniqlo and Pull & Bear are my favorites. Zara is more of a treat though because their clothing tends to be pretty high in the price department.

That said, about half my current wardrobe is from Japan. I have been to Japan a few times now (speak the language and I have friends over there) and every time I go I'm amazed at how bold their fashion is. I live in London, which is one of the fashion centers of the world, but by comparison of how the teenagers dress in Japan, we dress pretty boring over here! So whenever I go I always try and come back with a bag full of new clothes.

You have to understand, the last time I saw one of those things was when I was about five. But yea; I miss that smell

But what I do like to do, and I want to see some more of it, is put a hoodie under my leathers. I don't know what it is but I really like it. It kind of looks a bit like this

unrelated, but saw this

I would do terrible things for a plug suit hoodie

Again it's got that military look.

And for what ever reason I'm thinking about the gay episode of archer.

"Say what you want about the ze germans (and goodwins law) but they knew how to dress"
"Oh my god, Hugo Boss!"
"I know right?"

Waxed jackets and motorcycle armour: You just can't get more stylishly manly than that.

I mean look at this:

[HEADING=1]I'm here to save the world![/HEADING]

My only problem with waxed jackets is that it's so hard to find one with a hood, and since it's perpetually raining in Ireland that's kind of a necessity here.

Here's 3 for you my friend, all Barbour (yes I'm obsessed) but of varying styles and prices, all with hoods.

I've no idea how to get the links to work, sorry. Looks like you'll have to go to the effort of copy and pasting :p

Also, isn't that armour thing the same as one of the characters from Channel4's Misfits wears? Looks similar at least, and equally awesome.

These are the clothing items which suit this topic.

- Waistcoats.
- Pocket Watches.
- Monocles.
- And a nice fedora.

These things put together would make one gentle badass. :D

And here I was thinking that I would be able to come into this thread and boast about how I finally got around to buying a pocket watch and am toying with the idea of getting a monocle (a prescription one at that). But no, instead we are to be discussing fashion trends and which we follow. Oh, when will I get to discuss attire for the finer gentleman?

Anyway, on topic: I generally don't tend to follow fashion trends, and had literally never heard of 'cyber sheque' before opening this thread up. To be perfectly honest, I'm generally fine with the clothes I currently own until they are no longer fit for purpose. I very rarely buy new clothes, unless there happens to be a particularly good sale on, or if I see something I really have to have at that second (this has happened with maybe two or three items of clothing in the entire time I've been buying my own clothes).

In terms of following fashion in general, I've never seen the appeal with 'the next big thing' and having to wear all the latest trends. I pretty much just wear whatever I want, fashion be damned. Although I do get a weird feeling of trend-setting when something I've been wearing for some time suddenly fits into the latest fashion.

EDIT:

Well, I can't give much real life advice, but I always thought that Joshua Graham's armour from New Vegas was pretty stylish:

It does help that it's pretty much the best light armour in the game, except for possibly the dusters you can get from the Lonely Road DLC; but in my opinion those both make you look like a twat.

If we were all attending a Victorian dress-up convention.

OT: That first jacket is hideous. If an item of clothing is in any danger of making you look remotely like you've just come from cosplaying a Yu-Gi-Oh character, don't wear it.

That's my point. People seem to be obsessed with what's "retro" these days, and while retro-futurism sounds like a good idea, you usually end up looking like a gaudy Eurotrash musician from the 1980s with giant shoulder pads, silver studs everywhere and an excessive amount of colour aka Lady Gaga. I very much prefer contemporary futurism, which is sleek, minimal and polished. Something like this:

I always liked a classical style. Something a bit Victorian, maybe even turn of the century.

Something like that, with a just a plain black shirt and tie, I use a green one. The knot can just be seen, so...it looks good.

My god, that jacket in the OP is one of the worst things I've ever seen. I can't even imagine it would be comfortable.

Anyway, I much prefer clothing to be simple and minimalistic. I don't understand people who need a shit ton of zippers and buttons, and buckles on their clothing, it's all pointless and just gets in the way.

Zara is great. Yes, they're a little pricey, but their pieces are very comfortable and functional. I always shop at Zara when I visit USA/Canada.

And don't hate on London. Along with Paris, Milan and New York it's one of the 4 fashion capitals and it pretty much established shopping culture amongst many Europeans. Yes, it's very different from Japan but that's because of the culture, not because people have no taste. Japan is very unique anyway, and I think you'll find most Londoners completely puke at it lol
