George Romero's App of The Dead Shambles Onto iPhone

Just in case we never get the chance to see our friends and family turned into zombies, an upcoming app will make it happen now.

Coming soon to the iPhone and iPod touch will be George Romero's App of the Dead. It's attached to the famous zombie flick director to help promote the U.S. theatrical release of his upcoming film Survival of the Dead [http://www.amazon.com/George-Romeros-Survival-Theatrical-Rental/dp/B003JYOEYM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=digital-video&qid=1276714772&sr=8-1] (though the film was already released in the UK on DVD and has debuted on video-on-demand).

App of the Dead has two primary functions. First, it enables you to take photos of your loved ones and to turn them into zombies. It boasts over 20 zombie features, such as open wounds and weird eyes. If it doesn't include an eye patch too, I'll be disappointed.

Second, App of the Dead uses a separate in-game engine to allow owners to shoot their new zombified friends and family to death. Don't think you'll be able to kill your zombie mom before she can gnaw your forearm off? Get some practice in with App of the Dead. It's also being promoted to have "spectacular blood-spatter," which should help future zombie killers get over their fear of blood.

These skills will be important someday, so maybe App of the Dead can help us learn them now. However, is it just me, or is the "of the Dead" title really losing its luster?

Eh I'd play it if I had a Iphone...sadly I do not. And the U.S is getting a Theatrical release of Survival of the Dead? ...It wasn't that good... but then again most zombie movies are starting to get lame and go downhill nowadays.

Hehe this sounds pretty cool to be honest. I don't have an iPhone but this is still damn awesome. However it sounds like something that eventually will be used as a reason why someone killed a friend or family member. *sigh*

It's not just you... I haven't really seen anything good come of the "of the Dead" series for a while, perhaps excluding The Diary of the Dead (which was alright, not great).

I'm afraid not... Don't get me wrong, it's a definate improvement on "Diary" but it just lacks spark and the zombies aren't nearly dead enough. In his attempt to leave behind the pressure and prejudice of the high-production film industry in favour of a more intimate and independant approach, it seems poor old George has fallen behind in the very genre he created...

I'm afraid not... Don't get me wrong, it's a definate improvement on "Diary" but it just lacks spark and the zombies aren't nearly dead enough. In his attempt to leave behind the pressure and prejudice of the high-production film industry in favour of a more intimate and independant approach, it seems poor old George has fallen behind in the very genre he created...

I loved Diary. Sure it wasn't a Dawn or a Day or Night but it wasn't nearly as bad as Land. Or the godawful remake of Day (or Dawn I can never remember which one was which, the one with Bud). But this one was silly. At least I could relate to the characters in Diary. This was just a series of over the top zombie slayings by a bunch of morons. And can you explain to me how they got the heads on the poles? Very disappointing Romero. You completely forgot the morals and just went for laughs.

I acctually prefered Land to Diary. Land was a fairly good end to the series with the plot coming full circle: in Night it is the irrational fear of communism and insurgence, only by looking out of the window can you see the ghouls. In Dawn it's commercialism, of course. And Day is a nice shot at the military with, no doubt, the best zombies in the series. Yet in Land, the zombies have become us; there is no more warning to be made because we are one and the same and the final shot really brings it all together.

Diary on the other hand was just... eugh. A bunch of young college students in a pitiful pop at the media, which was needless as far more was said about media influence in the other films of the series.

Don't get me wrong, if you like it that's good. In many ways it's a good film... it just didn't work for me and I feel very much the same about Survival.
