German Geeks Taught To Flirt

Potsdam University [http://www.uni-potsdam.de/english/], south of Berlin, is offering the "flirting course" for those IT Engineers who want it. And let's face it, who wouldn't?

The 440 students enrolled in the Master's Degree course will learn how to write flirtatious text messages and emails, impress people at parties and cope with rejection. Without mentioning the size of their peripherals, one would hope.

It's part of a social skills package that also teaches students about body language, public speaking, stress management and presentation skills. The course's teacher, Philip von Senftleben, describes it as "How to get someone else's heart beating fast while yours stays calm."

Obviously no-one here would ever need such a course of instruction, but the next flight to Germany leaves in approximately two hours time. Just, you know, as an FYI.

If there was a girl that got the joke on that shirt...Now I'm just rambling though. I need to live in the real world.

It's hard to believe that a picture of a T-Shirt is trumping the entire news post in talk-about-ability.

Its ironic that we all forgo the entire article and notice only the t-shirt.
That is one kick ass shirt by the way. I didn't even bother to read the article. I just HAD to post about that shirt....
Okay now that I've actually bothered to read the article I must say it was rather interesting.

First of all, awesome shirt. Secondly, the course seems like an interesting idea. Sure, it's about teaching nerds how to score, but I think that, if phrased correctly to a prospective employer, it would be a great thing to put on your CV.

"German Geeks Taught To Flirt" - I didn't know that my g/f is a geek.
First of all, it's not the Potsdam University, it's the Hasso Plattner Institute (which is right next to the Potsdam University) which offers the course.
Second of all it's not like they're pulling this off because all of the students there are social rejects.
In fact, the people at the HPI are pretty down to earth. Well of course there are a few geeks, since it's an institute solely dedicated to computer science - but believe me, it's not as bad as this news makes you believe it is.
Actually this news has made quite a stir in the HPI (and worldwide, for that matter), and a lot of people are pretty pissed at the PR-Section.
BTW, the soft skills course is usually pretty usefull stuff for business relations. Now they include ONE seminar about flirting and everybody is laughing their ass off.

That would be the most awkward class. For everyone involved. The awkward students for having someone explain this to them (especially the flirting stuff), for the Professor being around a bunch of awkward students (who need the concept of flirting explained to them). Could you imagine group projects ("Okay, pair up with the gender of your sexual preference and let's try out our newly crafted pick-up lines. Rate them on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 as 'No Chance in Hell' and 10 as 'Let's Get It On.'")

Edit: read Jockel's post. So now this doesn't really apply. It just sounds like a Communications class that tried to increase relevance in the students' lives. *sigh* it was comedic gold they had there...
