Gestalt: an experience in which the whole is greater than the sum of its parts
Stalker: the game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.T.A.L.K.E.R.:_Shadow_of_Chernobyl), the movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079944/) and the book (Roadside Picnic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roadside_Picnic)
Each of the media for Stalker offers a different experience: an interesting book; a fun game; and a WTF? movie (at least, if you hadn't played the game or read the book before you saw it). None of them are particularly compelling in and of themselves, but taken together they create an awesome experience by fleshing out the back story, making the setting come alive, and establishing the Stalker as a living/breathing/feeling archetype.
Are there any other such experiences out there I'm missing? Note that the spiderman movie/game/comics and Final Fantasy media didn't work for me - I'm looking for something a little more gritty.
