"Get Buffed" With This Exclusive Icewind Dale Survival Video

The Escapist is hosting ten videos over ten days to help you stay alive when Icewind Dale: Enhanced Dale releases this month.

You may recall that back at the end of August when Wizards of the Coast and Beamdog Entertainment confirmed that the Infinity Engine classic <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/icewind%20dale>Icewind Dale would be receiving the same Enhanced Edition treatment that <a href=http://www.gog.com/game/baldurs_gate_enhanced_edition>Baldur's Gate and <a href=http://www.gog.com/game/baldurs_gate_2_enhanced_edition>Baldur's Gate II did last year. It was <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/137171-Dungeons-Dragons-Announces-Forgotten-Realms-Digital-Titles-at-PAX-Prime>an announcement that left many a fan of classic CRPGs happy and itching to get back into the game. That being the case, what about the many newcomers interested in giving in giving it a try? Where are they to start?

One answer might be The Escapist. We'll be playing host to ten exclusive videos over ten days from Beamdog and Wizards of the Coast aimed at giving players a leg up on the game before it re-releases in its shiny new form. The first of these "survival rules", starring the world's greatest first-level mage Alveus Malcanter, is <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/trailers/9822-Icewind-Dale-Enhanced-Edition-Rules-Part-1-Get-Buffed>already available and we'd definitely suggest you give it a gander. Assuming you like it (and what's not to like?), we encourage you to stay tuned over the course of the coming days so you can soak up all the wonderful wisdom we'll be sharing.

The Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition will launch on PC, Mac, iOS and Android on October 30th.

Step One: reroll a fighter until you get a strength of 18/00.

Step Two: clone that character five times.

Step Three: have all six attack the paladin (cleric?), with the survivor getting the paladin's +1 full plate and shield.

Step Four: export said character to a new game, with or without an accompanying party.

Also, I recommend full flail specialization, as the Giving Star is AWESOME and you get it early.

Oh god. I had suppressed those memories, and now they're all coming back! Nooooo!
I spent hours, literally HOURS just rerolling over and over to get 18/00 on BG 1 and 2 as well as IWD. Fuck that shit; it's not worth it. The best part was getting 18/00 and accidentally rerolling again. I think that was the cause of my first real facedesk.

Ahh, 2nd Edition D&D. And Stoneskin being one of the most inexplicably busted ass spells in the game.
(the most busted? Spell Sequencer, right behind Chain Contingency; at least until epic levels)

There's a reason Breach is an absolute must-have vs enemy Mages.

Before the enhanced BGI and BGII I picked up the originals along with IWD on GoG. Good writing, good gameplay, and some replayability. Build a party, arm your party, survive the traps and waves of monsters.

Ah, good ol' breach spell. I remember the first Irenicus fight in Baldurs Gate 2. The entire fight was just "Try and survive long enough to cast a breach spell" then watch as Irenicus exploded.
Lower Resistance and Breach; Greater Spell Sequencer's best friends.
Or as I called it "Make way for Cornholing!" (ala the Disney Aladdin song).

The first time I tried that fight, I also used trickle-summons to bait him into wasting spells, but apparently, the guy can cast Death Spell at will (kills summons almost instantly).

Much better to keep him occupied by staggering Breaches with True Sight up...ahh speaking of great spells: True Sight, your one-stop-shop for negating those EXTREMELY common Mirror Images, Improved Invisibility, Mislead, and other illusory bullshit effects Mages love to spam.
(also: concealment)

Pity it was nerfed into the dirt for NWN and NWN2.

Awwwww... Why Icewind Dale and not Neverwinter Nights? I know it's a little late to ask to say the least but... Why?
