Get Civ 4 for a Sawbuck at Games for Windows Live

Games for Windows Live is offering a sweet "deal of the week" with Sid Meier's Civilization IV: The Complete Edition [http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/] on sale for only ten bucks.

Okay, so nobody likes repeated commitments [http://www.gamesforwindows.com/] to PC gaming, which have thus far been distinctly lacking in follow-through, just expose the platform to ridicule. But a good deal is a good deal and the GFW Live "Deal of the Week" is, it must be said, a pretty good deal.

For $9.99, PC strategy fans can score themselves a copy of Sid Meier's Civilization IV: The Complete Edition, which includes the original Civ 4, the Sid Meier's Colonization [http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/warlords/warlords.html]. That's a whole lot o' Sid Meier for just ten bucks.

You'll need to install the Games for Windows Live software in order to actually purchase and download the game and that might be a bit of a struggle, but a tenner for the whole Civilization IV enchilada is worth putting up with some hassle. If nothing else, it's a great way to warm up for Games for Windows Live Sid Meier's Civilization IV: The Complete Edition Deal of the Week sale [http://www.amazon.com/Sid-Meiers-Civilization-V-Pc/dp/B0038TT8QM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1282922732&sr=1-1-spell] is on until September 1.

Wow! so I can buy a good game, and have it ruined by GFWL?

Civ 4 is £13 on Steam in the UK. And you don't have to use GFail.

Apart from Steam did the same thing during the big Summer Sale....and Windows GWTF is strictly classified as a virus, apart from it's large and unwieldy.

To compare, the same collection is $40 on Steam at the moment, so it really is a good deal if you don't have a copy of the games already.

That's just Civ IV. Doesn't include the expansions or Colonization.

Honestly Virgil, with the hit your machine takes in processor speed due to GWTF, especially with Civ, which can really hammer the processor in later turns, I'd prefer to buy it in Gamestop or Game and pay the extra.

Well that is one really good deal. But honestly I'd first like to see Microsoft make GFWL a better platform, then start with all the sales.

GFWL do quite a few really good deals... I love GFWL and amazingly the tech crew are really helpful and love to hear feedback.

I think it's ridiculous people don't give them a chance and whenever GFWL is mentioned Steam is dragged up.

(I don't like Steam, I do like GWL)

Not worth it. If it was on STEAM or D2D, Id buy it in a heartbeat. Wouldnt even think twice. Hell, even Impulse. Anything but Games for Windows.

I Mac'd it up from Steam a week ago. Loved CivIII, and love CivIV. GFW failure aside, for $10, I'd buy it if I used a PC.

I got this same deal on Steam a little while ago. Ten bucks for all of Civ IV isn't a bad thing at all (though I ahve very little experience with GFWL).

Anyone already interested in any of the civilization games probably already has it, not to mention the steam sales it was in. All I see is a platform grasping for straws.

GFW Live isn't great, sure, but I'm really surprised that so many people are passing up on such a great deal because of it. It's really not a virus.

Most haven't used it, but it doesn't help you said it sucks four times in your article.

He's got a point, you did insult it several times in that article.

I'd buy this except I have no money... I wish more people would give GFWL a chance.

Grabbed this when it was all on Steam for $14 a few months back, but I'm glad to see GFWL willing to do a similar sort of sale, even though it's fairly late with a title that's been around this long. If they added XBL achievements I might have had some interest, as silly as that sounds, but there doesn't seem to be any mention of that.

I already own Civ 4 on steam. I dont have the expansions, which would be the reason I would buy this, but id rather have it tied to my already owned game.
